PATTI LABELLE IN CONCERT:

Legendary R&B belter Patti LaBelle came of age at a time when the term "diva" wasn't used loosely — as a tireless performer and industry veteran, Ms. LaBelle earned her diva designation with hard work and pure, raw talent. Beloved by fans for her fiery live performances and sassy wit, Patti proved she was still in top form on her 2012/13 50th Anniversary Tour, consistently bringing down the house with electrifying renditions of classics like "Lady Marmalade" and "New Attitude." An indefatigable touring presence, Patti serves up more diva realness in 2014 with several highly anticipated appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Patti Labelle cut her teeth singing in church choir and several girl groups before settling into her role as frontwoman of namesake group LaBelle in 1970. Following minor success in the early part of the decade, LaBelle hit the big time in 1974 with "Lady Marmalade," which became their first No. 1 and remains one of the most popular songs of the disco era. In 1977, Patti released her self-titled solo debut album to positive reviews, wowing critics with her songwriting and prowess as a vocalist. A series of successful albums followed including 1986's Winner in You, which landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and received several Grammy nominations.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The show was the absolute best! I've never been so happy in all of my life to see Patti LaBelle live....she was great, her music was on point, the background singers were out of this world."

"Patti was great! The voice was superb and she hasn't lost a step. At 70 years young she is AMAZING!"

"It is wonderful to see a performer who truly enjoys entertaining the audience. I have been following Patti for 40 years and I have never been disappointed. She gives her all."

    Late, late , late

by Jazz on 5/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

First of all, this was my first time seeing Patti LaBelle and El DeBarge. They were both on my bucket list. And although individually they gave a great show, the show started entirely way too late. The showtime was scheduled for 6 o’clock and El DeBarge didn’t start until 730. I don’t know if that was the reason the show seemed shorter than usual, but overall the concert was OK.

The venue was perfect love it! The concert was amazing. We definitely need more old school artist concerts. That type of vibe and crowd is priceless and no drama. Thank you so much for hosting such a great concert!

    3.5 Stars!!! It was good...till it wasn't

by Tlynnpowell on 5/15/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The venue was as expected. Overly priced concessions. Loved the fact that the pit seating was properly spaced and we were not sitting on top of each other. El Debarge - I loved him!!! His voice was on piont, and he gave a great show. His band, however, seemed like they were a recently assembled group of local musicians who did very well but could have been just a little bit better. They played beautifully but did not/ could not follow his flow or pick up on cues for when he wanted to do things like "break it down"during a song or "run"the music after the song was technically over for ad lib singing. Like they reached the official end of the song, then was completely silent while El was still signing, trying to give it to some lady in the audience. LOL! They weren't good at noticing and following subtle hand signals, and it would have been nice if they could sing or had backup singers. But I still give the overall performance an A, it was great!!! Can't wait to see El Debarge again! Pattie Labelle - Although Pattie Labelle was the headliner, my interest in this concert was primarily for El Debarge. I've seen her many, many times over the years and think she's a great singer, but I wouldn't have purchased tickets if she came to Detroit on her own. Get it, "I'm own my ownđŸŽ¶đŸŽ¶đŸŽ¶", LOL! While I was indifferent about even staying for her performance, I thought she did better than good for a 79/80 year old that's still performing and touring. She was absolutely beautiful and her overall performance with her band and singers was somewhere between "meh"and "very okay". Things got very awkward when Pattie gave a lady in the audience a pair of shoes, then "ungifted"them a little while later. While signing a song, Pattie picked up a pair of shoes she had displayed on top of a piano, walked to the edge of the stage, and handed them to a lady in the audience. Chick was ecstatic. The shoes were beautiful! She put them on and then began to dance while her homegirls were taking pictures. After the song, Pattie says, "Who did I give my shoes to?"The chick raised her leg to show how they were a perfect fit. Pattie, with suprise and a little disgust, commented, "Oh! girl, you put your feet in my shoes!"Then, in her typical Pattie voice, she says, "Girl, dont you leave outta here with my shoes, those are very expensive. "Everyone is so confused! Soon after, a guy comes out, hops over the pit seating barrier, and gets on the floor with a flashlight looking for the feet that rehomed Pattie Labelle's shoes. He gently but intently removed them from her feet, hopped back over the barrier, and disappeared behind the stage. How humiliating! She thought Pattie gave her the shoes; we all did! The lady just sat there like a statue absent of any movement and suffered through the rest of the concert. While it appears that Pattie gave the shoes away on mistake, she absolutely should have just let the lady keep them. To make the situation even more embarrassing, the trumpet player stood right in front of the chick to taunt/tease her. He even poked his bottom lip out to mimic pouting during their solo time. All of this was so not cool! At the end of the concert, Pattie Labelle blew the lady a kiss. I wound have returned her affection by flipping her the bird. THE END!

Restrooms and stage sound quality improvements needed!

by Rhonda on 5/15/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Excited about taking my mom to see Patti and El! The disappointment was when I went to the restroom and felt I stepped way back in time! The lighting was extremely poor. People were using the bathroom in the dark! Women and men use the bathroom very differently. We have to maneuver around in the stall so we have to have good lighting for this! Don't get me started on the lack of cleanliness! UGH! The stage sound quality was really off. Patti even spoke on it and sitting main floor you could definitely hear it. I loved Patti and EL! Please do much better when it comes to the facility and sound quality!
