BC Lions History

The BC Lions are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1954, the Lions have made 10 appearances in the Grey Cup championship game and have won the cup six times: in 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The BC Lions have claimed the Grey Cup twice on their home turf, including their notable 1994 victory over the former Baltimore Football Club, which prevented a U.S.-based team from hoisting Canadian football’s top prize. The Lions logged the CFL’s second-longest streak of playoff appearances, running for 20 consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2016. Throughout the BC Lions’ history, roster members have claimed 14 Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, 11 Most Outstanding Canadian Awards and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards apiece, seven Most Outstanding Player Awards, and five Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s Coach of the Year.

BC Lions at BC Place

The BC Lions are the longest-tenured team to continuously compete at BC Place, starting with its opening in 1983. The stadium has grown in stature across the league, hosting nine Grey Cup championship games, including a Lions victory in 2011. During home games, fans can expect to hear the BC Lions fight song “Roar, You Lions, Roar” and get hyped up with team mascot Leo the Lion. The 54,500-seat multipurpose stadium has also hosted Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC as well as games during the 2010 Winter Olympics and the annual Canada Sevens rugby competition. BC Place is located on the north side of False Creek in downtown Vancouver.

    Great / Fun

by Coleman on 11/12/23BC Place - Vancouver

The in-arena entertainment was distracting and caused me to miss the start of several plays. This is especially the case because I am an American CFL fan who is not used to the 20 second play clock.

Touchdown! All cheers and smiles in section 207

by Rad Dad on 11/8/23BC Place - Vancouver

Great game. Great Food choices. (Not overpriced) Great fans in the stands ready for some fist bumps and high fives! Perfect event to take the family and meet some friends at halftime. From start to finish, we all had fun!

We had excellent seats for a great price to see the lions tromp Calgary. It was fun.

    Halftime show- abysmal...

by Nicky on 10/23/23BC Place - Vancouver

Calgary won - yeah.. However the announcing was very one-sided...it was hard to know when anything was happening... especially if Calgary made a play or a touchdown...

    Lack of heart

by Jaym on 10/23/23BC Place - Vancouver

The Lions last home game of the season was a complete letdown. They didn’t play the “A” guys and it showed. Lack of heart. Was a disappointment compared to the last game we went to and the last couple we watched on tv.

    Good event but lousy game

by Matt on 10/23/23BC Place - Vancouver

This game was a no-show by the Lions. One sided beat down from beginning to end. All efforts were made by the organization and stadium to get the fans excited, with partial success.
