Gladys Knight On Tour

The "Empress of Soul" is back. One of Motown's most iconic acts, Gladys Knight, returns to the big stage in 25 cities across North America for her 2022 tour. Although she's perhaps best known for her original rendition of the R&B classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine (1967)," Knight has remained in the limelight as one of the all-time greats for the last 60 years. The seven-time Grammy award winner has won across three categories including Pop, R&B and Gospel, and has another 22 nominations spanning across five decades. Over her illustrious career, she has released 10 studio albums, with her debut album Miss Gladys Knight releasing in 1978, and her most recent work Where My Heart Belongs coming out in 2014. In 1996, her band Gladys Knight & the Pips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Knight was also included on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Off the stage, Knight has authored two books, including a biography titled Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, and made various appearances on television and the big screen. Her most recent appearances came when she played herself in Coming 2 America in 2021 and when she wore the bee costume on "The Masked Singer" in 2019.

Gladys Knight in Concert

Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Merald Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth on May 28, 1944. She has a sister (Brenda) and two brothers (Merald "Bubba" Jr. and David). As a child and into her teens, Knight sang in her local church choir where she refined her Motown chops. She had her first breakthrough into the spotlight at the age of 8 when she won Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour contest. Over the next few years, Knight and four of her family members (Bubba, Edward Patten, Langston George, and William Guest) formed a performing group to be called Gladys Knight & the Pips. After a successful run in the local Atlanta music scene, the group received a record deal with Brunswick Records in 1957 and began opening for legends in the music scene and influences on their style such as Sam Cooke. The group's first record to chart was in fact a cover of Johnny Otis' "Every Beat of My Heart," which made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight left the group in 1962 after a string of successful releases such as "Letter Full of Tears" to start a family with her husband Jimmy Newman. However, she returned to the group two years later and went on to critical success over the course of the next five decades.

    Old Friends

by WPS on 5/2/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The concert tonight made us feel like we were reconnecting with a longtime friend after a brief absence. An interesting thing happened because of the warmth and love that filled the room with Ms.Knight’s singing. People around us began to share the joy they felt and we started to introduce ourselves. Unity erupted.

    Gladys Knight - GSR Reno

by ArubaJim on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Glad I was able to see this wonderful artist. The show started late and ended fast, slightly more than an hour and 15 minutes. Heard a couple of her hits and she sang about 14 songs and was gone. Thank you for letting us hear your voice, wish it could have been for a few more songs.

    Remarkable Gladys Knight

by Tammy on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The concert was good. The one hour wait and the length of the performance (approx 60 minutes) was unexpected after the email notices telling me to be in my seat on time for a 7:30pm start. Gladys is frail but her voice is solid! The concert venue was good and our balcony seats were an added plus!

    Short and Disappointing Show

by JAllen on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

We were looking forward to seeing Gladys Knight in Reno. I received an email from the venue advising the show would start promptly at 7:30, and encouraged us to be there when doors opened at 6:30. We were, and ended up sitting until 8:15 before the show started, with no explanation as to why the delay while we waited. There was no introduction of Gladys when the show started. She forgot the lyrics to one of her songs, and depended heavily during the performance on her back-up singers, who were great. There was little to no engagement with the audience. The band was excellent, but she never introduced them, or the backup singers. The show ended about 1 hour after it began, and there never was a wow factor during it. We were very disappointed, and did not here people talking about the show as we walked out.

    she's still got it!

by rel on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Disappointed that show started almost 1 hr late (with no explanation). After Gladys "warmed up"with a couple of songs I was so impressed with her voice (still has it!), her warmth and performance. She is 80 yrs old and I applaud her still doing what she does--and doing it well!!

    The concert was extremely disappointing.

by Kathy on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

This was by far the WORST concert I've ever attended. Gladys Knight finally came on stage almost an hour after the concert was supposed to start. She was helped on stage by two men holding her arms. You couldn't understand a word she was singing, but thankfully her three backup singers were able to cover for her. She walked around the stage for maybe 15 minutes, then they brought a stool out for her to sit on. The entire concert lasted about an hour. Definitely not worth the money.

I get it that Gladys is 79 yo!

by rontak on 5/1/24Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Hey Gladys Knight fans! I get it that Gladys is 79 yo! BUT to start her concert 1 hour LATE and to perform for just 1 hour - that's unreasonable! I don't know why Gladys started so late but her band was on stage from the advertised start time and no Gladys, until just over an hour later. Her voice is still strong but her movements on stage are those of an elderly woman. And finishing at the one hour mark left the audience with a total impact of whether we got our money's worth. I WOULDN'T reommend her show to anyone, although I had an ok time.
