We flew from Winnipeg to Phoenix just for the show and were left completely disappointed. We are huge fans of Tim Robinson, ITYSL and the Detroiters, I was so excited and wanted more than anything to like the live show but that was not possible from what was being presented to us. The 5 or 6 unseen sketches were the best part but that was a such a short portion of the show, they were hard to hear in this type of venue and I was expecting some conversation around how sketches were thought of, why these ones didn’t make the cut, etc.. but all that was said was a ‘Yes’ or ‘no’ on if they were good and if they should have been in the show - nothing else. The rest of the show was dominated by the moderator (brooks), the music director (Whitmer) and the bit from the “new to comedy/improv” person (Brendan Jennings). I found the roles of these three were not only not needed, but just so unfunny… I tried and wanted so badly to laugh but nothing was working. It felt like a podcast that I would have shut off if I hadn’t of spent so much money on the whole thing. I’m not someone who ever writes reviews and still really love itysl but seeing this kind of tainted it. I bought merch before the show for myself and others back home and now I feel weird about buying it and thinking of wearing it.
When you think of an ITSYL live show you would expect to hear from Tim and Zach the most and I’m not sure why that didn’t happen. I think it would have been amazing to see a live performance of a sketch, but I would have been more than happy if it was still the same format but with just some good insight/commentary from the creators.
It sucks to make such a bad review and wish it wasn’t the case
