Tickets were expensive and food options were limited and expensive. This event is to support the high school athletes for their hard work and accomplishment, finishing their wrestling season. The cost to attend the event to support these local athletes throughout the state has been ridiculously expensive. The cost of the event makes it difficult for some families with lower incomes, to attend the event and support their own child at the event. When you travel across the state to attend, you need to take into consideration that these families must pay for fuel, lodging, and meals for this 2 day event. The ridiculous price of tickets to enter the event and the outrageous prices for food and drinks is very costly for some families to be able to watch their own child participate!!
It was my 1st time and a great experience, surprised to see so many people there, but I was happy to see my granddaughter compete in the state championship as a sophomore.
The tournament itself was well run. The WIAA Mat Classic has out grown the Tacoma Dome. Time to rethink one venue for the whole state. Parking and entry were a nightmare. The food selections were horrible: high prices and low quality.
The mats should have been centered more between north and south bleachers with both sides out. Some mats could not be seen from the high north side. The scoring screens were only two sided and the bout number was unreadable from stands. The older configuration you could see all mats and larger match numbers you could find the matches you wanted to watch.
The Tacoma Dome is in bad need of an update the restrooms reeked , the parking was inadequate and the time it took to get into the facility was atrocious. The wrestling was great and started on time and moved at a good pace, but it would have been nice if they had some kind of a reader board so you would know who was on which mat.
The venue is due for a few more updates. The bathrooms left much to be desired. There could be more water bottle refill stations, i only saw one. The staff and ushers were very polite and respectful to the parents and other fans. The tournament was run very well.
They need to figure out a way for the 1B 2B people to be able to see their wrestlers from where they have us seated. We could only see 2/3 of the matt. It was much cleaner this year.
Need to have three referee’s at a mat to minimize referee error. They have that at the national matches.
The Tacoma Dome is an outdated venue for such a big event. Parking was extremely limited and it took an hour to leave the parking lot due to poor planning, lack of access to multiple gates to leave and no attendants on site to help. Food options are expensive and very limited, huge lines for very small amounts of food. Overall the experience was financially draining and I will avoid attending any events at Tacoma Dome in the future.
