Hungry Hungry Games? Lost my appetite!

by voicelady on 10/24/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

I was so looking forward to seeing The Hungry Hungry Games at the Tilles Center as a birthday present to myself. When I discovered that Old Jews Telling Jokes had moved to Chicago, I thought, "Here's a spoof, should be funny, it's local, what could be bad?" I enjoyed the movie The Hunger Games and all 3 books, so I was really looking forward to an evening of excellent comedy. However, I was wrong. Overall, this show tried too hard to be funny, and in most cases, it didn't succeed. There were a few moments where we genuinely laughed, and the parody of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" was hysterical. Otherwise, I felt that these very talented performers tried their best to make comedy out of something that wasn't very funny. I have been a musical theater performer for over 25 years, and I've co-written a one-act musical and a musical revue. I know how hard it is to write a show, and I applaud the efforts of anyone who wants to create comedy, satire, or a spoof. I was just disappointed that The Hungry Hungry Games fell short.

Hungry Hungry Games was Hilarious and Witty!

by SNLguy on 10/23/13New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

So disagree with Boston show reviewer, he must have eaten too many beans that night, or maybe he should have eaten more! Saw this funny show in New Jersey and loved it. An outstanding multi talented cast, who went in and out of characters faster than SNL. Especially loved Hannah Solow's pink wigged commentator character. The positive energy and humor of the whole cast was great. For Hunger Games fans and anyone who is hungry for humor. See it when it comes to your town,

    Too much sexual inuendos

by LB4Ever on 10/23/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

Having seen the potted potter, which was a fantastic spoof on the Harry Potter books/movies, we assumed the same would go for the Hungry Hungry games. Unfortunately, even though the actors were funny, the sexual inuendos were completely inappropriate for kids!!! It was so embarrassing! And my parents and inlaws were mortified by the content. I would not recommend this show.

    explicit sexual references

by JeepOrange on 10/22/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

The explicit sexual references, grabbing of Kat's breasts and the jokes about sexual activity made me uncomfortable seeing this with my 13 year old daughter but the kids seemed to enjoy all the insider jokes. Certainly not suitable for kids younger than 13. Kinda depressing too for a comedy/parody. No positive messages for teenagers in this performance.

Only 5 actors, playing several parts. Lots of energy and lots of fun. We had a great time!

Normally I'm not a huge fan of intermissions but at this show I was grateful for the opportunity to escape! The dialogue wasn't witty and jokes meant to push the limit missed their marks and were just crude. Even the cast seemed aware that this show is a train-wreck! Go see Potted Potter or Spank instead - both are parodies worthy of your laughs and hard earned money.
