Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.
Everything I expected! He is truly amazing and it was nice to spend his birthday with him.
Billy was having SOOO much fun! Teasing other songs, having his backup singers/musicians lead songs (they can SING) and enjoying his 75th birthday with us! It was Billy and 20,000 friends singing along! Sat in Section 222, row 16. PERFECT view of the large screen and the stage. It was like a horizontal split screen!!
Billy gave a fantastic show and sang most of the songs we know and love!
Billy Joel brought down the house in Madison Square Gardens on his 74th birthday! The venue was great and he is an excellent abnd engaging performer.
Loved the experience, whole family had a good experience
An Amazing concert from an amazing artist with tons of stamina. Billy Joel you were world class and a voice stiill to match. The Piano man did not dissapoint and it was his birthday.
He never disappoints and for 2.5 hours he outdid himself yet again. Happy 75th birthday buddy, you shared it with us and we were over the moon being there with you!
Billy is AMAZING and the perfect way to forget about life for a while!
A highly anticipated event is a risky thing. It could easily be a decent happening but expectations are so high that it could disappoint. Kind of like prom night. This was most decidedly NOT the case with Billy Joel's May 9th concert. Of course he's great. We've seen him before and he always puts on a great performance. But this night was special for a number of reasons. He's nearing the end of his record setting run of sold out shows. It was Madison Square freaking Garden. Add to all that it was His Birthday. But to top it off, it was also my wife's birthday, and this was the centerpiece of our special trip to New York. A Bucket List moment. And it was Wonderful. We saw his TV special and while it was good, it did not capture the excitement and energy of this show. Nothing like live music performed at a high level. The only disappointment was that his catalogue of songs is so extensive that a two hour plus show is bound to leave out anticipated songs. (No Uptown Girl?.... are you kidding?) He could have played for 4 hours. A serious contender for Most Memorable Concert ever for these two fans. Great Venue, Great Artist, Great Presentation, Great Time. Multiple Stars.
Billy Joel never disappoints! He still brings charisma, charm, songs that tell the stories we will never get tired of listening to , and a voice no one will ever duplicate .
