Such a beautiful show. Anohni’s voice and stage presence was captivating, political, spiritual and better than I could ever imagined. A show not to be missed.
I don’t understand why an artist don’t do the most popular song in his concert…we have know Anthony and the Johnson because of Fistfull of love…not okay in the concert…11 hours of road…deception! Overall the sound was good, performance good…musicians really good…best moment of the show ? Saxophonist solo!
I really have wanted to see a Ahnoni concert. When I saw she was Touring. I had to see her. Me and wife came from Philly to Toronto since my wife’s brother was there’s and it was Thanksgiving week in Canada. She has a great voice and seem to put a lot of her artistry in her show as well as sending her message. Her show was only an hour and a half. My feeling was she didn’t dig the crowd to much. I don’t know it was different for me nobody standing much and I didn’t notice many people singing. I enjoyed her music. She is a paradox to me. She’s very big in stature and voice but also has a sweet demeanor. She sings of a very depressing world but still makes me hopeful. For my wife she didn’t know her and said she was talented but not for her.
Anohni is a unique talent. She is able to transform pain into beauty more powerfully than most other artists. She understands that music is just a part of the whole and that the stage is just part of the whole. The concert was masterful, a gift to the audience rather than being about the performers. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to hear this magnificent voice and see this visionary artist in person.
I took a friend who had never heard of Anohi and I had never seen them in person so didn’t know what to expect. The performance was ethereal and evocative in presentation, sound, lyrics. At one point my friend said, “I thought this was going to be rock music. It is beautiful.” We thoroughly enjoyed it. The theater was lovely too.
Blown away. Beautiful. Great performances by all.
Anohni has brought the full depth and range of her remarkable voice and emotions, giving words to feelings we may not even know we have... The musicians are gifted and skilled, bringing the starscape of their collective musical gifts to life. Truly an experience to soak into one's bones...
I’ve seen Antony & the Johnsons a few times over the last couple decades. Every show is something different. I’ve seen her in intimate settings with just her and a piano. I even saw her do full on techno versions of her songs at Coachella. So, after not touring “Hopelessness” and the new album being a return to form of sorts i didn’t know what to expect. She didn’t disappoint. This time around she used vivid washes of color to set the mood and her band was great. Strings and horns really suit her live experience. She hit the piano a couple times too. Standouts for me were the title track of her solo record “Hopelessness” and the dreamy hot pink “Drone Bomb Me” and her climate anthem “4 Degrees”. The new stuff was great too. Go see her if you can. She doesn’t tour a whole lot and it’s a treat to witness her unique talent.
The Fox Theatre is one of my top three favorite venues in the Bay Area. Absolutely gorgeous inside, and the intimate size guarantees there’s not a bad seat in the theatre. Acoustics in the theatre lend such a rich sound for a vocalist such as Anohni. She was breathtaking. Highly recommend both the venue and the artist. Was a very special evening!
An amazing night ! Life’s treats come in a form of a night at the Oakland theater with ANOHNI she is one of the greatest artist of our end of times. Her voice will take you places like the heavens or to the deep depths.
