For 30 years Anthrax has been bringing the noise and treating ticket buyers to aggressive, fist-pumping music. Blistering guitars and double-pedal drums are only the beginning. Anthrax combines elements of punk, funk, hardcore and rap into their sound, and its stage presence on tour is more frat party run amuck and less fire and brimstone metal. The band’s use of humor sets them apart from their contemporaries as Scott Ian, typically dressed for an Anthrax concert in shorts and t-shirt, looks like he should be on a surfboard or at the skate park. Their newest LP Worship Music was released in 2011 debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.
Anthrax’s story began in 1981, when the guitarist Scott Ian and then bassist Danny Lilker looked through a biology textbook in search of a moniker for their New York City thrash-metal band. Classic 1980s albums Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease cemented Anthrax’s signature stomp and crush sound, churning up mosh pits and sending waves of concert goers into a head-banging frenzy. Anthrax’s biggest crossover hit is “Bring the Noise,” a 1991 collaboration with Pubic Enemy. Not only did this metal/rap hybrid get serious airtime on MTV, but it is also credited for being a genre-defining moment in music and setting the groundwork for a genre known as “nu metal.” Artists are still giving a shout out to the seminal song; this is best illustrated in M.I.A.’s new album “Matangi,” which has a song tilted “Bring the Noize.” The crossover hit from the 1990s is still crossing over today — and the band is still as great as they've ever been.
Great show, great venue! We had a blast. All 3 bands put on a great show. Anthrax still kicks a$$!
The venue was the perfect size including the staff at The Grove was friendly, happy and professional. I can’t boast enough about the venue. Even the parking was on point. Thank you for restoring my hope in concerts again.
Me and my mother had THE BEST time at the show. Took me back to when I was younger listening to them. Black Label Society was OUTSTANDING as well. I'd do it all over again if I could. AMAZING! 💃🏻💃🏻🎉
Amazing concert in a beautiful theatre (Fox in Oakland) with the most excellent sound. My daughter and I loved it and can't wait for more Metal in the Bay area and, more importantly, at the Fox Theatre!
$20 dollars to park in a very safe garage in Oakland was a great value, 1/2 block from venue. Getting in was painless and The Fox Theater is beautiful inside and out. The sound was amazing for all three bands; Exodus, Black Label Society and Anthrax. The crowd was there to support all the bands and it was overall an amazing night. Anthrax put on an amazing show for their 40th anniversary.
Exodus and Anthrax absolutely killed it! Black Label was a snore fest! An hour twenty of what I would swear was the same song. They should’ve been the opener with a 20 minute set instead of playing longer than the headliner. Anthrax played a GREAT career spanning set. As always, Frankie looked the happiest guy in metal, that guy is having the time of his life! Charlie was a beast behind the kit and Scott is a beast on the rhythm! Can’t wait to see them again
It was a cool show everybody relaxed had a good time not too many people
super sick. all the employees at the fox theater were great. very professional and organized. lines moved quick. only sad part was my brother asked for a medium shirt and we got a small and didn’t realize til we left and it’s way too small for him
Thrash has never let us down and this show was no exception!, all three bands were loud, aggressive and border line punishing, we left bruised, battered and ears ringing, the way it was meant to be. I've been at the shows and in the pit since 1979 and nothing can compare.
The ticket and all the electronic reminders I got said that the doors were at 6:30. The opening band exitus had been on since 6 o’clock. That needs to be improved. Other than that great Show, Great staff.
parking garage was somewhat of a hassel, had to down load an app for payment, other than that great Venue and concert
Do not miss Anthrax if they come through your town. High HIGH energy show, start to finish. Crushed their catalog from the first album to the latest. Everything is on point and exactly as you would want from a live show. Thank you Anthrax, PLEASE come back soon! Looking forward to the next album!
Was full throttle from the exodus thru black label. Anthrax was tops!! Joey sounded awesome. The band super tight and still look like they are having fun!
This is a great venue! Everyone eas very nice and helpful. Nothing was hard to find. Security did s great job!
BLS and Anthrax were phenomenal! Can’t wait to see them again in the future!

Exodus was ok. Black Label Society was good. Anthrax was awesome!
They never disappoint! Second time around for me seeing them on this tour. Just wish they would headline with no opener.
