Jimmy Eat World in Concert

Jimmy Eat World started in 1993 as a punk trio formed by childhood friends Jim Adkins and Zach Lind. After years of hard work in the studio and on the road, the band settled on a poppier sound, hitting the spotlight in 2001 with breakthrough album Bleed American. The album included several successful singles including "The Middle," which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an MTV staple. After extensive touring in support of the album, the band returned to the studio for 2004's Futures, which peaked at No. 6 and earned the band another No. 1 single with "Pain." Chase This Light in 2007 and Invented in 2010 would achieve similar success, cementing the band's role as one of the most successful indie acts in the business.

In 2013, Jimmy Eat World celebrated 20 years of independently released records with Damage, their critically-acclaimed eighth studio album. At their live concerts, the band delivers a blast of non-stop energy and enthusiasm, delighting ticket buyers with heavy guitar riffs, boisterously precise drum solos, and three-part vocal harmonies anchored by the familiar croon of frontman Jim Adkins. 2013's Damage saw the band transition from teen-angst rock towards a more sophisticated sound, with lyrical content taking on a markedly more mature tone on singles like the album's title track and "I Will Steal You Back."

Jimmy Eat World on Tour

Jimmy Eat World announced their Criminal Energy Tour in 2020. The 20-date summer run starts in Atlanta, GA on August 6, 2020 and culminates in a hometown gig in Phoenix, AZ, Labor Day Weekend, on September 5, 2020. New Jersey-based The Front Bottoms join the tour as direct support with Turnover and Joyce Manor splitting the duties of opening the festivities on select dates. Jimmy Eat World continues the 2020 roadshow in support of their "bold, brave and ultimately defiant" (NME) 10th studio album, Surviving. With 10 records to pull from, the sets will prove to satisfy all fans new and old. Over the course of their career, Jimmy Eat World have sold venues such as Saint Andrews Hall (Detroit) to capacity, as well as 713 Music Hall (Houston), and The Masonic (San Francisco).

  • Jimmy fan for life but the sound was horrible

by Perrypainter on 7/24/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I will love Jimmy Eat World forever. Definitely my favorite band. I love them. I was so excited to see them again. Then they started playing. Whoever did their sound needs to be fired. It was such a bummer. I tried not to let it bother me but going from beautifully mixed sound from Manchester Orchestra to completely unbalanced sound with twangy rhythm guitar overpowering everything, it was so sad. For the headliner to sound that bad is pretty embarrassing. I just sang as loud as I could and tried to ignore it. I can’t wait for them to come back with a competent sound engineer.

  • 5 stars for the opening acts

by JP on 7/24/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Middle Kids and Manchester Orchestra crushed it! Jimmy Eat World was good, but I wouldn’t want to have to follow Manchester Orchestra 😆

  • Jimmy Eat World San Diego

by JC on 7/24/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed the show. Nice venue. Intimate setting outdoors at Petco’s Park at the Park. Able to sit or relax and sit on the grass. Sound was good and Jimmy Eat World out on a great performance. Looking forward to seeing the upcoming Pixies show.

  • Jimmy Great - Manchester Poor

    by JohnA559 on 7/24/23Rating: 3 out of 5

JEW sounded really good, they hadn't skipped a beat though it would've been nice to hear Futures, such an awesome song but no such luck. Manchester Orchestra left a lot to be desired, too much slow ballads and not enough rock. I've been to many many shows but never heard a band close their set with an awful slow song. Oh well

  • disappointing

by TM on 7/24/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I've seen Jimmy Ear World a dozen times over the last almost 20 years. This was sadly the worst sound mixing I've ever heard at any of their shows. Back up vocals and guitars were almost inaudible, Jim was too quiet but his guitar was hot. Just a weird and hollow sound for most of the show. Still fun overall because they always give a great effort but too bad not to be able to hear the songs correctly.

  • Let down

by Jeff on 7/24/23Rating: 2 out of 5

Paid for 2 "VIP"packages whatever that means was supposed to get a free tee shirt was just ignored by the guys running the band swag stand. No one there knew where i was supposed to go for the stuff i was supposed to get. The signage was small and easy to miss to begin with. The guy kept looking at me and my girlfriend but said nothing not even "ill be with you in a moment". 20min of waiting and we had enough of the rudness and just left. Jimmy eat sounded muffled and distorted couldnt hear vocals. As always over priced drinks. Dont sell "VIP"packages if there is no real VIP treatment all your doing is putting VIP infront of the sale so you can charge more for a general admission ticket........!!!!!!!!

  • We ended up leaving early

by Ham on 7/24/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I’ve never left a show early in my entire life but we left early during Jimmy Eat World’s set… they were playing really slow songs and either they didn’t sound good or the sound guy was mixing it wrong. We got bored so we ended up leaving with the other large volumes of people that left before the show ended. They should have had Manchester Orchestra close the event. They were amazing.

  • Killed at the Cosmo

by BrandiG on 7/23/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Lifetime Jimmy fan and traveled to Vegas to see them at the cosmo. Was a phenomenal show, felt so surreal but personable at the same time. Great show, great crowd, perfect set! Will travel to see them any time!!

  • Jimmy Eat World LIVE

by Lionel on 7/23/23Rating: 5 out of 5

It has been 16 years since I saw Jimmy Eat World play in concert. I was stoked to see them play at the Greek Theatre! Jimmy Eat World played awesome and I had a great time watching them play my favorite songs. The venue was great, too. It was my first time attending the Greek Theatre in person. I enjoyed my time and look forward to seeing my favorite artists play at the Greek Theatre.

  • Horrible sound

by Jonathan on 7/23/23Rating: 2 out of 5

Quite a few of us felt the sound was so muffled at the Greek that it was almost refund worthy. The band was good and this was not our first time seeing Jimmy Eat World though this was the first time with such bad audio. Apparently the comments on their pages are the same. The San Diego show seemed to have audio problem as well so I don’t know if it’s a venue issue or a band issue

  • Amazing Experience!

by Honey on 7/22/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I had the best time at the concert and the music was soooo surreal. Wish I could do it all over again!

  • Jimmy Eat World Owns the Stage

by am on 7/22/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This was my third time seeing Jimmy Eat World and they do not disappoint. The band sounded great and worked the stage. There is also no doubt as to how much this band appreciates their fans. The atmosphere at The Greek can’t be beat.

  • The sound was way off for Jimmy Eat World

by Poor sound on 7/22/23Rating: 3 out of 5

This was my 7th Jimmy Eat World show and by far the worst sound mixing of all of them. Lyrics sounded muffled and bass was heavy and guitars were very low. Still loved singing along to all my favorites. Just wish the sound was better

  • Still Got It

by Vee on 7/22/23Rating: 5 out of 5

The event was well organized, GREAT opening acts! Jimmy Eat World did a great set with their popular songs and newer songs. AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!!

  • Manchester Orchestra & Jimmy Eat World

by Rick on 7/22/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great except for the sound of Jimmy Eat World. The sound mixer had the bass guitar level too high. It overpowered the sound of the drums. Instead of lowering the bass guitar volume the drum volume was raised. You could barely hear the guitars and the singers voice volume was too low. Whoever did that mixing did not do Jimmy Eat World justice or their own job for that matter

  • The sound mix nearly ruined the show.

    by John R on 7/22/23Rating: 4 out of 5

So obviously I’m stoked to have been able to see Manchester Orchestra and Jimmy Eat World as a longtime fan, and MO had a great set, but whatever the sound engineers did to Jimmy’s mix was atrocious. The vocals were too quiet, and sounded like they were run through a weird compressor that cut off the high frequencies. Otherwise, it was my first time at The Greek and I see why it’s so many folk’s favorite venue! Great view from basically everywhere and being tucked in the hills is really cool. I’ll be back but I hope the sound is better next time.

  • 3 bands - 3 crowds

by Vanessa on 7/22/23Rating: 3 out of 5

I went to see the Manchester Orchestra at Greek Theatre LA. Honestly, while I enjoyed being at the Greek, in hindsight, it was stupid going. If you want to see just one out of the three bands, that are going on stage one after another, don’t go. Most of the crowd was there for Jimmy Eat World and did not, at all, vibe to the other two bands. It was incredibly boring, because the atmosphere was so flat, so I actually left early.

  • Why Does Manchester Orchestra exist?

    by E42 on 7/22/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Arrived at the beautiful Greek theater just as Manchester Orchestra was starting. Was not familiar with them before, and actively hate them now. First, they’re neither from Manchester nor were they an orchestra. They were just another group of 4 white dudes with guitars. Then, they played about 10 songs too many. The music was emotional without having ant soul behind it. They were like an emo Dave Mathews Band minus a fiddle player and diversity. The songs were like bad fishermen-no hooks. I don’t understand how they got booked as co-headliner on this tour. Next time make them play last as the co headliner so people will be able to comfortably leave early before they play and get a nice early night in.

  • Good concert, weak sound

by Cactus Jack on 7/22/23Rating: 3 out of 5

All the bands were great. My only complaint is the strict decibel level ordinance at The Greek Theater. The overall sound left a lot to be desired, especially from bands like Manchester Orchestra and Jimmy Eat World. The energy the bands had on stage didn’t translate beyond the sound board. The mix was inconsistent throughout the concert.

  • Live sound engineer

by Andrew on 7/22/23Rating: 4 out of 5

The bands were all great … the sound was terrible .. it was so quiet. I could hear the guitar amps on stage louder than the speakers. I could somehow hear the people talking behind me louder than the music, In all three bands, the backing vocals were louder than the main singer’s vocals. I usually love the Greek- but this experience was not great.
