About

Lives Outgrown is, by some measure, Beth's most personal work to date. She has never talked about the subject matter of any of her songs until now. She has never deployed backing vocals until now. The songs sit where her voice lives now. The album is the result of a period of sustained reflection and change -- "lots of goodbyes," in Beth's words. Farewells to family, to friends, even to her former self. These are songs from the mid-course of life, when looking ahead no longer yields what it used to, and looking back has a sudden, sharper focus.

"I realised what life was like with no hope," says Beth. "And that was a sadness I'd never felt. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you're up against your body, you can't make it do something it doesn't want to do."

Other songs touch on motherhood, anxiety and the menopause (which Beth describes variously as "a massive audit" and "a massive comedown" which "cuts you at the knees") as well as, inevitably, mortality.

"People started dying," says Beth. "When you're young, you never know the endings, you don't know how it's going to pan out. You think: we're going to get beyond this. It's going to get better. Some endings are hard to digest."

But emerging from this decade of change and realignment has left Beth with what feels like a renewed purpose. "Now I've come out of the other end, I just think, you've got to be brave," she says

  • Experience of a lifetime

Beth has been an artist I’ve followed since the late 90s. She’s a top tier vocalist and songwriter. My first experience seeing her perform live was better than i dreamed. She’s one of the best in the game.

She is simply incredible. I cannot emphasize how moving her voice and music are in person. Great venue in Beacon theatre

  • Amazing! Exceeded Expectations! Must See!

by BTru on 4/2/25The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan since the release of the first single by Portishead, who I was lucky enough to see live once. The show was far better in every way. Beth’s voice is still perfect. The care and attention to every detail of the show, from the brilliant multi-instrumentalist musicians, their placement and stance, the lighting and theatrical smoke, and the set list create something very special, really magical. Beth has an understated presence in her stance and performance, but she is not invisible behind the smoke and lights. She is a true Artist and a perfectionist in her performance as much as in her music. The experience was transcendent. I believe every person in the venue felt what I felt that night.

  • Stunning Performance!

by Melissa on 4/1/25The Met Presented by Highmark - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Beth Gibbons and band gave the audience a beautiful, emotional, jaw-dropping performance. As a music fan I attend many concerts over the 30+ years, but this one is easily in my Top 5 concerts. The acoustics in The Met (Philly) are outstanding! The venue offers ornate detail, comfortable seating and great views from the box.
