About

As they approach their twentieth anniversary, CAKE’s adherence to their original guiding principles has only grown stronger. Formed during the nineties as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE’s democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no obvious peers, belonging to no school.  In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, they have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their own solar-powered studio, which actually generates more power than is needed to run it, causing the building’s electrical meter to run in reverse. CAKE’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released on their own Upbeat Records label and debuted on the US Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #1 during 2011 -- making the album as pure an extension of the DIY aesthetic as ever attempted by an established act.

    What a great show!

Cake has never disappointed! We have seen cake several times over the years. They always engage the crowd, perform energetically and never disappoint. Loved the Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln also.

Cake but not all the icing

by jwb on 5/17/24Pinewood Bowl Theater - Lincoln

This was a bucket list concert since the late 90's. Probably waited a little too long. The songs and the musicianship were great, but not probably not near what energy was brought 25 years back.

    Ok show

by Bill on 5/16/24Pinewood Bowl Theater - Lincoln

Not sure what I expected, but overall a C at best. The production was very bland, show length of 2:15 was short. Musically it was a C.

    Didn’t get my money’s worth

by JenZ on 5/16/24Pinewood Bowl Theater - Lincoln

With no opening act, a long intermission and a lot of talking I maybe saw an hour of music. What they did play sounded great, just was left wanting more.

    So-So

by MD on 5/16/24Pinewood Bowl Theater - Lincoln

It was frustrating that there was more talking than playing songs, and then they took an intermission, which is extremely rare for concerts these days, unless it occurs between multiple band shows. A second area of disappointment was people standing in the seating areas. They had a pit for standing with plenty of room, but people were disrespectful and stood so that others could not without standing also. We moved at least 6 times due to this situation. Finally, traffic control was a joke, and it was not safe for pedestrians leaving the venue. It was my first and last trip to this venue, unless significant changes are implemented.

Thoroughly enjoyed Cake. Really like their format. Pinewood was a chill place to see a show. It was my first time going there
