Launched as the Orlando Miracle in 1999, the franchise was purchased in 2003 by the Mohegan Tribe, who became the first Native American tribe to own a professional sports team, and moved to their current home in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Sun have advanced to four WNBA Finals, in 2004, 2005, 2019 and 2022, and topped the Eastern Conference five times. Sun players have earned five All–WNBA First Team selections and two MVP awards, for Tina Charles in 2012 and Jonquel Jones in 2021. Since joining the Sun as a rookie in 2014, five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas led the WNBA in steals in 2020 and continues to hold the league record for career triple-doubles. In 2023, the Connecticut Sun advanced to the postseason semifinals behind Thomas’ rebounding Peak Performer-winning play in the regular season.
