About

DEFEATER IN CONCERT:

Melodic hardcore outfit Defeater makes blistering music with brains, tempering their aggressive sonic assault with cerebral lyrics and virtuosic musicianship. Lyrically Defeater is a concept band -- all their songs tell the story of a Postwar New Jersey family grappling with the social and cultural changes of mid-century America. Despite this narrow conceptual framework, they manage to cover a huge swath of sonic and emotional territory at their live shows, flooring fans with their blazing guitars, pummeling drums, and the growled storytelling of frontman Derek Archambault. Whether they're firing on all cylinders with the anthem "Bastards" or performing an acoustic track from 2012's Empty Days & Sleepless Nights, Defeater always rock ticket buyers with unforgettable shows brimming with energy and creativity.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Defeater formed in Boston, MA in 2004 and spent four years honing their sound before releasing their 2008 debut album Travels. The record tells the story of a postwar New Jersey family struggling to make ends meet, a thematic motif that has defined all their material since. They continued to flesh out this story and its characters on 2011’s Empty Days & Sleepless Nights and 2013’s Letters Home, which they supported on the Vans Warped Tour as well as tours with La Dispute, Carpathian, Comeback Kid, Bane, and Miles Away. Their fourth studio album, 2015’s Abandoned, continued the saga of the same family with another chapter of emotional songs. With the epic, album-spanning saga they’ve created, Defeater have amassed a contingent of diehard fans who continue to follow their every move on tour.

  • First time seeing Defeater live

by Ashleyisavag on 5/13/15The Sinclair - CambridgeRating: 4 out of 5

The lineup was pretty good. I enjoy seeing new live music although some of the bands weren't for me. They all put on a good show. Defeater was incredible, though I wished they played more old stuff. Most of it was from letters home. Still a good album, but I didnt know many of the songs. The Sinclair was a nice venue, Ive never been there before. I know moshing is against the rules but if you book a band like cruel hand, it should be expected. The bouncers should really just be making sure no one gets hurt instead of trying to stop people mid-mosh. People were just trying to have fun. All in all, the show was awesome. I'm glad I finally got to see them live.
