About

One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today has also
made quite an impression in the television and radio arena.
In 1999, D.L., along with comedians Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer,
embarked on this national tour, which sold out most of the major concert arenas in over 50 cities across
the country. The tour went on to gross a staggering $37 million dollars nationwide. Spike Lee, eager to
expose the tour to a larger audience, made a docu-film of the tour, and it was released nationwide to
rave reviews.
Hughley spent four successful years starring in his own sitcom "The Hughleys" and showed no
signs of slowing down. It was the mega-hit,"The Original Kings of Comedy" that launched D.L into
superstardom. The film, based on the 1999 tour featuring D.L., Bernie, Steve and Cedric, garnered
close to $40 million dollars at the box office and became one of the highest selling DVDs in 2001.
In addition to some exciting television developments, D.L. took a serious turn with his work,
starring in the drama "Shackles". Hughley wowed audiences in 2001 in "The Brothers", co-starred in
"Cloud Nine" opposite Burt Reynolds and also starred in the film "Doubting Thomas".
In 2005-2006, D.L., hosted his own late night talk show for Comedy Central "Weekends at the
DL"; his first foray into late night hosting.
D.L.'s creative arsenal is non-stop. He starred as "Simon Stiles" on the Aaron Sorkin drama
series for NBC "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and hosted the popular BET hidden camera reality
series, "S.O.B. - Socially Offensive Behavior". In 2006, D.L. also starred in his own HBO comedy
special entitled,"Unapologetic". The special, which aired to excellent reviews, is now available on
DVD. Following the success of the special, D.L. went on to host the second season of HBO's "Def
Comedy Jam" and served as host of the BET Awards in 2008.
Most recently, D.L. served as host of his own late night talk show on CNN "D.L. Hughley
Breaks the News". Proving he could, indeed, break news, D.L. was able to uncover startling, newsmaking
comments from such guests as former White House Press Secretaries Scott McClellan and Ari
Fleischer, as well as a recent controversy-stirring comment from RNC Michael Steele.
D.L. can currently be heard on the New York airwaves, as the host of the morning show on
WYKS-FM. In just a few months on air, D.L. has managed to increase the listenership for the station.
D.L. has undoubtedly proved himself as one of the hardest working men in showbiz. In addition to his
growing TV and film resume, D.L. continues his reign on the standup comedy front; filling out concert
halls and headlining comedy clubs across the country.

  • Birthday with DL 2024

    by Lady D on 8/4/24Rating: 5 out of 5

I have seen DL several times I admire him he’s very down to earth very well spoken . I think he’s very funny and adorably handsome. This particular birthday I turned 66 I have always had $80 $90 dollar seats because thats what I could afford. When I saw DL was coming on July 5th I got excited my birthday is July 4th so I started saving and got the VIP seats $495 for 2 tickets I thought VIP seats automatically meant you get a meet and greet I had it before years ago I had told co-workers and family I’m finally going to meet DL . I was so sad after the show when I was told no you don’t get to meet DL Hugley . There is no meet and greet I was so sad , I would not have paid that much if I knew I wouldn’t get to meet him the jokes are just as funny sitting a couple rows away . My old man said baby I’m sorry but don’t let this spoil the rest of your birthday. I end with DL put on an amazing show.

  • A tad disappointed.

I consider D L Hugley one of my favorite and one of the top stand-up comedians around. He’s informed and up to date on current events, sharp, smart, and makes me (and the hubby) laugh out loud, which is hard to do these days (we’re old school and we know our comedy). But Sunday’s show felt rushed, he was talking way too fast and It felt as tho he wanted to just get it over with. To make matters worse, he was doing OLD JOKES!!! OK, maybe the brother was having a rough night, I get it. However, my husband and I are coming up on retirement and we must spend our money wisely. This makes us hesitant to buy tickets again but we got much love for you DL!! Keep on pushing.

The show was great with relevant material. DL was polished & professional. I’d see him at any venue.

Always keeping it real!! I love his sense of humor, can make the most political and ridiculous situations absolutely hilarious. He's thought provoking, makes someone say 🤔 in a good way. Highly recommended.

DL was a little off tonight, just OK! The lead and act was actually funnier!

  • Too funny

DL can do no wrong. My only regret is not being part of the black crowd (therefore not fully understanding every single word he said, lol). I miss my Netflix subtitles. I would have laughed more and would have looked less lost, lol The opener was also hilarious! Great night!
