I do enjoy Hawaiian music--particularly done to slack key guitar strings. It was soothing, fun, and inspiring all at once ... and those dancing hula to the music were beautiful. Can't wait for their return.
The concert was a wonderful variety of Slack Key Guitar stylings. Paul Togioka's sweet Kauai traditional instrumentals started it off, leading to Don Kaulia's mix of song and picking. Stephen Inglis exuded aloha with every breath. Dennis Kamakahi, as always, intrigued all with his original Hawaiian tales set to music. Hula dancers added nice visuals. Not only did the concert blow you away, but they even gave away a guitar!!!!!
Each performer was amazing. My friends, hubby and I had a great time.
The lineup of slack key talent was incredible. We need more slack key events in the DC area.
From start to finish, this performance was fascinating: the explanations and history of the performers and their songs; the complete beauty of the pieces performed; kind of a magical quality to everything.
