About

It takes a masterful songwriter to tell heart-wrenching tales with a sense of humour, and John Grant does just that. His strong baritone bleeds frank, confessional lyrics with generous honesty and musical eloquence.
Formerly of Colorado’s The Czars, Grant has emerged from a difficult past to deliver two astounding solo albums, including his acclaimed Pale Green Ghosts.
Joining Grant on the bill is Southern troubadour John Murry, who journeys from heartbreak to salvation via arresting Americana.

Catch John Grant + John Murry as part of Sydney Festival in January 2014.

  • John G. did not disappoint!

by Greg W on 4/12/25Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre - SomervilleRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of my favorite concerts. Perfect artist in the perfect venue (Crystal Ballroom - Somerville, MA). It was just John and a piano. He told stories about the inspirations behind his songs making them so much more meaningful. I have loved John’s music for years and was so impressed with the quality of his performance. He doesn’t tour the states much so see him if you can. I promise you will have a great experience.

Don't miss John Grant in concert whenever/wherever you are. So good. The small venue helped. But he also hired an amazing back-up band to tour with.

My beloved partner & I got to sing, GMF whole heartedly with JohnGrant....surprisingly, no one else in the audience sang so, it was the 3 of us...We will always hold this experience close to our hearts. having seen John Grant earlier in the year with a full band, it was a no-brainer to see him again, this time in a more stripped down version - he is a terrific performer it was a nice treat to have seats in the GA area which made it feel more intimate - if you have a chance to see him, go without hesitation

I've been anxiously waiting to see John Grant live after seeing videos of his performances after his first solo album, Queen of Denmark. I was excited to read he was coming to NYC as part of the tour to support his new album Pale Green Ghosts and was able to get tickets with my partner. His singing is even more stirring and beautiful than on recordings. His voice has a raw, powerful quality, masculine and vulnerable. I'm not as familiar with his songwriting when he was with his former group the Czars, but as a solo artist, he writes about his growth and relationships with humor, candor, bitterness and unrelenting honesty. His sound has evolved since QoD from 70s soft-rock to include a more 80s-influenced electronic sound on PGG. The songs with more of an electronic feel were more powerful live, and the piano-based songs, including tunes from QoD, were even more emotional and intense. It's definitely a highlight of the year (in a year of many personal accomplishments) to see John Grant in an intimate venue.
