Los Angeles Chargers History

Established in Los Angeles in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League, the Chargers moved south in 1961 and played in San Diego through the 2016 season. Advancing to five of the first six AFL Championship games ever played, the Chargers claimed the 1963 title and later joined the National Football League when the two leagues merged in 1970.

Since the merger, the Chargers have appeared in the playoffs 15 times and went on to appear in Super Bowl XXIX in 1999. They have captured 15 division titles to date. In 2017, the Chargers moved back to Los Angeles after 56 seasons in San Diego. The team has a total of 15 inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including LaDainian Tomlinson, Lance Alworth, Ron Mix, Sid Gillman, Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner, Fred Dean, Bobby Beathard, Don Coryell, and Junior Seau.

Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium

The Chargers called the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum home during the team’s first year of existence in 1959. After relocating from San Diego to Los Angeles in 2017, the team played at Dignity Health Sports Park through the 2019 season while SoFi Stadium was under construction. As the first indoor-outdoor stadium in America, SoFi Stadium is a state-of-the-art venue that can accommodate up to 70,240 fans for Chargers games. Costing $4.9 billion to construct, it is the most expensive NFL stadium to be built.

Located on the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack, the stadium has played host to a variety of sporting events, including Super Bowl LVI in 2022 and the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship, and will be the site for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Olympic Games in 2028. It is also the home field for the Rams, making SoFi Stadium one of two stadiums currently shared by two NFL teams.

  • Bucs Fan great game

by Impact on 12/29/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Charger fans have a great looking home. First time I was able to make it to a Bucs game with the family and it was a great experience, as a fan and as someone who lives in LA to see how well this stadium turned out.

The staffing was great the only thing I didn't l like You have to pay everything with card

  • Seating is completely uncomfortable.

by Uncomfortable seating! on 12/22/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 2 out of 5

Unfortunately, going to the stadium is not the best place to see a concert or enjoy a football game. I believe that as part of why they can't sell out the stadium to local fans. Instead of thinking of a design where they didn't have to smash people in together, they designed it to make more money and sell more tickets, by putting in seats that are too tight and not enough room.

It was am amazing seeing my Baltimore ravens get a win at the SoFi stadium. The venue was cool, me and my family was able to get very quickly. Also snacks at the stadium are expensive but it was cool to get a bite to eat.

I really enjoyed my time at the stadium.... we lost but the whole experience was wonderful

  • Fantastic

by Marci on 11/20/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

SoFi Stadium is just amazing. We came all the way from Brazil to visit it and watch an NFL game. It was a wonderful experience. We highly recommend. However, we found the organization a little cheap. I have attended many games in different cities and the fun of getting a gift from the local team is always welcome. Either t-shirts, necklaces, whatever, it always give us something to remember back home

  • Still no cheerleaders

by Matty on 11/20/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Stadium is amazing. Had a good time, however, Chargers need to bring back the cheerleaders and stop with the violin lady.

  • Makes Paycor Stadium feel like the minor leagues

by Vestomatic on 11/20/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

I flew my family to LA to watch the Bengals lose to the Chargers. The stadium made up for the loss. We toured the locker rooms and even got to play toss on the field. We did upgrade to VIP, so seats were amazing, the food choices were great. The seats themselves were comfortable. Every employee we interacted with was nice. Bring your wallet...luxury has a price. Would 100% do it again.

  • Great

by Isaac on 11/13/24SoFi Stadium - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

First time at the new stadium and everything went smooth. Parking was easy (orange lot), club seating was nice, and leaving the game was not bad either (maybe because of where I parked?). Great experience all around!
