Lupe Fiasco in Concert

Chicago-born, Grammy Award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco gained national attention with his 2006 album Food & Liquor, which helped cement a new wave of Chicago rappers in the national conversation. Revisit the album that put Lupe Fiasco on the map, and changed the course of Chicago hip-hop forever.

The independent rapper who parted ways with his former label, Atlantic Records, following the release of 2015's Tetsuo & Youth, is pegged as one of the most gifted lyricists and visionaries to grace the mic. Rising to fame in 2006 following the success of his debut album, Food & Liquor, Lupe has released six acclaimed studio albums; Drogas Light, released in 2017 on his own label, 1st & 15th. These albums have netted 3 platinum singles, 3 RIAA Gold Certifications, 12 Grammy nominations and one Grammy Award in 2008 for his infectious single, "Daydreamin," feat Jill Scott. With a trilogy of albums set for 2018 and beyond, Lupe is at his creative peak as an artist. Most recently, Drogas Wave released on September 21st, 2018 via 1st & 15th. His efforts to propagate conscious material helped solidify him as GQ's Man of the Year in 2006, and garnered recognition as a Henry Crown Fellow.

While musical genius and ingenuity are at the forefront of Lupe's achievements, the artist extends his innovation to projects that aim to foster creative discourse and opportunities in underprivileged and impoverished communities. As the co-founder and co-owner of community initiatives such as, We Are M.U.R.A.L, The Neighborhood Start-Up Fund, Society of Spoken Art, and Studio SV, Lupe Fiasco proves that he is more than just a mouthpiece for change, but a committed facilitator of intellectual community discourse and outreach.

Lupe is a lyricist like no other. He put on an excellent show. Dude had great interaction with the crowd, skilled us on the new sound, and hit us with our favorites. He even spit off the dome later in the show. It was a real experience. If you can see him DO IT! Get there early cause the front few rows had quite a memorable night. Lu is a gift to the culture. So glad we checked this off the list.

  • You should've attended the concert!

by Debbie From Da Chi City of Wind on 11/13/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I was feeling under the weather and still attended Lupe Fiasco's electrifying performance at The Salt Shed in Chicago on November 10th, which left the audience in awe and was truly a night to remember. From start to finish, the concert was a masterclass in musical brilliance, blending thought-provoking lyrics with infectious beats and incredible energy. The evening kicked off with three exceptional opening acts (Billy Blue, Two Depressed Kids, and Frayne Vibez), each bringing their unique style and talent to the stage. The crowd was treated to a diverse range of sounds, from soulful pop R&B to high-energy hip-hop/rap, setting the perfect tone for Lupe Fiasco's headline performance. The opening acts set the bar high, and they did not disappoint. As soon as Lupe Fiasco took the stage, the atmosphere in the venue shifted. His commanding presence and lyrical prowess captivated the audience from the first moment, drawing everyone into his world of introspective storytelling and poignant social commentary. Backed by a talented DJ, Lupe delivered flawless performances of hits old and new, showcasing his appreciation of family love/support, versatility, storytelling, crowd interaction and artistry. Let's not forget his niece KeKe doing a dance number during the end of Autoboto. His ability to connect with the audience on a deep emotional level while maintaining an infectious energy was truly remarkable. One of the standout moments of the night was when Lupe received an award from the Mayor of Chicago making November 10th Lupe Fiasco Day and shout out to his mother for suggesting having every Lupe Fiasco Day at The Salt Shed!

  • I had a great time.

  • Had to leave early - too many opening acts

by Rocky on 11/13/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Unfortunately this show fell on a Sunday night (difficult to attend due to work and family commitments). We arrived for an 8pm start and understandably there were a few opening acts: however the choice of some was quite disappointing given Lupe's subgenre of hip-hop. By the time the main man took the stage, we had endured 1.5 hours of substandard opening acts, so we only got to see 10 minutes of Lupe. Wish he could have played on a Friday or Saturday night.
