About

MELVIN SEALS & JGB IN CONCERT:

Electric organ master Melvin Seals rose to prominence in the '80s as a member of the Jerry Garcia Band, and today he keeps Garcia's hallowed legacy alive and kicking with his offshoot band the JGB. Taking the stage amid trippy '70s-inspired visuals, the group improvises their way through groove-heavy sets of jazz and blues-infused rock jams, wowing audiences with their intuitive playing and world-class chops. Seals' virtuosic keyboard riffing remains as sharp as ever -- whether he's lending his nimble fingers to Grateful Dead classics like "Sugaree" or performing covers of Motown favorites like "How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved by You)". Ticket buyers to looking for a good time can expect a wildly diverse, high-energy concert experience every time.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

San Francisco-born Melvin Seals took up the piano at age eight and by his teens he was playing with his church's gospel choir. He went on to record and perform with luminaries like Charlie Daniels and Chuck Berry before joining the Jerry Garcia Band in 1980. Seals recorded and performed with the band throughout the '80s and '90s, appearing on revered albums like 1982's Run for the Roses and 1991's Jerry Garcia Band LP. Following Garcia's death in 1995 Seals launched JGB, a continuation of the project dedicated to honoring the late great guitarist's beloved musical legacy. Since then the group has released several studio albums, dropped a series of live albums titled Pure Jerry, and headlined the Grateful Garcia Gathering in Mauston, WI. Seals & JGB continue to impress Deadheads and jam band lovers around the country with marathon sets of solo-filled tunes every time they hit the road on tour.

  • Awesome Show!

by Emilfaber on 4/1/25The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Melvin Seals and the JGB last Saturday in Port Chester at the Cap. It was AWESOME! Great setlist, amazing musicians and the nicest crowd ever! The venue is accessible and clean. People were drinking beers but no obnoxious drunken behavior to ruin the music. The band is filled with super musicians who know each other well. Lots of songs to dance to. My wife and I had a great time. This was our second time seeing them; the first time on our Honeymoon in Boulder in Summer 2023. Just glad that Jerry Garcia's music lives on forever! EF

  • Melvin Seals and JGB at the Showroom in the Tropicana

by Kevin on 11/25/24Tropicana Showroom at Tropicana Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 1 out of 5

I am very angry that TM charged me $116 per ticket when I purchased them as a "Standard ticket"back in late August only to see that the same "Standard tickets"in the same section and in the same Row were listed as Standard Tickets the week before the show at $65 each! Box office at the Tropicana was of no help and gave up arguing with Monique as show time was approaching and there was a line of 10 deep forming behind me. TM should refund me the $105 difference!

  • Great Music - Terrible Crowd

by JerseyJoe on 11/25/24Tropicana Showroom at Tropicana Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

The music was great, as close to the JGB as you can get. However, our experience was ruined due to some people in the first row who could not sit down. I want to go to a show and relax, watch and listen NOT STAND!!!. My wife and I were in the second row and people in front of us were constantly standing and calling other people over to join them. We paid for SEATS for a reason and that would be TO SIT IN THEM. We did not pay to look at the people in front of us blocking out view. One couple in the front row did sit, the remainder of the crowd was just pathetic, moving up to the stage and causing a constant distraction. Security was there but they rarely came over. If I ever attend another event there I won't pay for seats near the stage and after this episode I won't be going back anytime soon.

  • Not a bad seat in the house.

by ChefHeavyD on 10/9/24Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati is a great venue offering a more personal experience. Small but intimate and friendly. Melvin Seals and JGB had a great set, different from the many other times I have seen them.

  • Late start, only one Melvin song

by JJ on 8/13/24Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

Show was scheduled for 12:00, but they had a horrific super loud DJ playing till 12:30. I almost left then . Band started around 12:45. Show was good, but Melvin only sang one song, and he is really the highlight of the band.

  • Not to be missed

by Grateful Michele on 6/24/24Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Huge Dead and Company fan. Have seen them many times over the years. Was excited to see them in this experience and it did not disappoint. Only thing to warn people-it’s very cold inside; more so the higher up one is.
