iLive are excited to announce the long-awaited return of legendary hip-hop duo Method Man & Redman on their Blackout Australian Tour. The two prolific rappers, who have also carved out massively successful solo careers, released their first collaborative album Blackout! in 1999 which earned the duo a cult following, and ten years later, followed up with Blackout! 2.
Both albums have become legendary hip-hop classics. The duo, who are known for their hype shows, start their Australian Tour in Adelaide on the 8th September, and travel to Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
THE ENERGY WAS EQUALIVENT TO A ROCK CONCERT. A NICE DOSE OF HIP HOP.
From the time they hit the stage I was on my feet dancing and singing every word I knew and mumbled through the words I didn't. Voice was raspy by the time it was over.
I have attended this event for over 10 years. The energy that usually fills the hall was simply not there. The entertainers did the best they could to hype the crowd, but it remained dry. The ticket sales spoke volume. Half the hall was empty. Past line-ups were more extensive this year seemed short on entertainers. I guess we all took a short this go around. Will take the wait and see approach next year prior to purchasing tickets.
I had a wonderful time! Well, all but the JaRule segment. All the other performances were great!!! The JaRule portion was too long and he talked waaaay to much. Once lil Jon had me hyped I was ready fa Meth n Red and Ja just deflated me. He didn't need to be apart of the lineup frfr. You should have done the order like this this in order to keep everyone on their feet and avoided the lull that happened.... Ya set play should have been Too Short, Brat, Lil Jon n then Meth n Red. Don't bring Ja back. He didn't need to be apart of this. So it was the perfect end to my bday celebration in AC, but it could have been better.
Tickets stated concert started at 7pm so we arrived at 6:15. Upon arrival, signs were on door stated concert started at 8pm. Once doors finally opened we waited another 30 minutes to get our tickets scanned. That was absolutely no bueno. I may not do floor seats again at Jim Whelan. Seatscare small and wY to close to each other (no arm rests to separate seats). Once the crowd stands, it's a wrap. If you don't stand, your watching the performances on the side big screens. As far as the performances are concerned. Da Brat: Solid opening performance. Performed her major hits and had very good crowd participation. Left the crowd Funkdafied and set the time for the rest of the evening. Too Short: Seemed out of his element on the East Coast (Atlantic City performance with a heavy Philly/NJ/NYC/Delaware crowd). Besides his mega hit "Blow The Whistle", only his most dedicated fans truly enjoyed this performance. His performances were solid his song selection, the line up and the crowd just wasn't the right fit for him. Lil Jon: A-MA-ZING!! ABSOLUTELY BLEW THE ROOF OFF of the Jim Whelan Arena. Performed all his hits and even hits of affiliates like Yin Yang Twins. Not one person was sitting and every aisle was a dance floor. Crowd participation through the roof. In all of my years, I had never seen Lil Jon perform live. Definitely beyond my expectations and, personally, my most enjoyable performance of the night. Ja Rule: Solid performance but tough task to follow the King of Crunk with Hip Hop crooning. Half of the songs he performed were Ashanti collabs. His set would certainly have benefitted from her being of the bill (or at least bringing her out for a surprise guest medley). That would have definitely taken his performance to the next level. He ended his set with his verse from "New York"...not the best move for a heavy NJ/Philly crowd but luckily the Eagles had won a few hours earlier so it was all Brotherly Love. Red & Meth: This was the moment I was waiting for. I've seen R&M perform several times and they've never disappointed...until this time. While Redman continues to be the poster OG of what a 35 year rap career should be represented, Method Man seemed like the bitter OG, expecting most pit energy from a predominantly middle aged fan base. The crowd was as engaged as they could possibly be at midnight but it didn't seem to be good enough Clifford as basically tried to bully the crowd into mustering up "more energy". There were a few other questionable set decisions like allowing little known Wu affiliate StreetLyfe to perform solo as well as a collab with the duo. There was also a brief set which allowed DJ Dyce (of the legendary hip hop group Das EFX) Showcase his DJing/scratching skills. Both would have gone over well at a "purist"event...but this was not that. Most of the crowd was either lost or uninterested. The duo predictably & expectedly closed with "Rockwilder"which, of course, had everyone on their feet. A nice big shiny bow to end their set and the night Overall, I would rank the entry experience 5/10 and the concert itself a 7/10.
