You think you love him... and then you see him perform live
by Snow on 6/24/24Rating: 5 out of 5So I thought I loved Omar. I was like, 'it's totally reasonable as me, a person who lives in the USA, to fly to Sweden to see him perform the same 3 or 4 songs multiple times across different cities on a radio tour."Correct... but I had no idea how much I loved Omar before that. Watching his performances online? Fun! Seeing him in person, especially from barricade? INSANE. I flew back six months later for his first solo show (sold out!) and it was even more insane because he put on a SHOW. From the opening number to the finale, the entire show was electric. The pacing was perfect, which is amazing because his catalogue is eclectic in the best possible way. Spanish language, sexy bangers? Check. Sunny, English pop hits? Check. Swedish ballads? Double check, and oh yes I cried during the first one. He's an absolutely amazing dancer on top of having the most unique and powerful voice. Honestly, his vocal tone is SO unique and it carries across in every genre. He can be heartwarming on one song and then erotic on the next without skipping a beat. Add to that, he is just a delightful human being. He is entirely non-toxic, fun, and just has a vibe that is undeniable. I discovered him in the most roundabout way online, from his boyband days, and I have never made a better decision than to spend hours of my time devouring every performance, interview, and music video on YouTube.
I cannot wait for him to tour in the USA and for him to be the international sensation I know him to be. Will I miss the days of his fandom being a tight-knit community of the funnest queer folks around the world? Yes. Does he deserve to leave me in the dust? Absolutely. You too will decide to spend the bulk of your disposable income on seeing him live, wearing his merch, and dousing yourself in his perfumes. Oh my God... he has a beauty brand too, and I could go on and on about how wonderful his perfumes are or how amazing it is that he's crafted this unique, inclusive brand that celebrates everyone. And did I mention he's also an actor, because he is, and he is *amazing* at that too. (check out Young Royals on Netflix) And he's a model, which should come as no surprise because he is the most beautiful human, full stop. I think Troye's 'One of Your Girls' was written about him.
What can't Omar do? Wink. That's it. He can't wink... but he can't wink so adorably that I think he's probably the world's best failure at winking.
I really could go on and on... AND I HAVE... but, you know, whatever. He is the best live soloist I have ever seen, and it is a damn shame nobody else took the time to say so here.
