OTTMAR LIEBERT IN CONCERT:
Guitarist and Zen monk Ottmar Liebert is a giant of new age music, beloved by fans around the world for his virtuosic brand of Spanish-influenced guitar instrumentals. His pared down live performances are a model of less-is-more, moving audiences with simple yet emotional arrangements that allow his talents to really shine. Fans at Liebert's 2013 shows were treated to a decidedly spiritual experience, building anticipation for his 2014 tour dates with his band Luna Negra.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Cologne, West Germany, Ottmar Liebert took up the guitar at age 11 and the flamenco guitar at 14. After several years playing rock music throughout Germany and the US, Liebert settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1989 and started the first incarnation of his band Luna Negra. Their 1990 debut LP Nouveau Flamenco marked a break with Liebert's rock past, instead exploring "new flamenco," a subgenre that featured traditional flamenco guitar alongside more contemporary pop elements. Over the next two decades, Liebert released more than 20 studio albums, five of which received Grammy nominations for Best New Age Album. The recipient of 38 Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, Liebert is poised for even more success with two new albums slated for 2014.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"To describe Ottmar's performance as amazing would be an understatement. It was without a doubt...the evening of a lifetime. He plays with his heart and soul — you as the audience feel every chord that he strums."
"Ottmar Liebert was incredible. He played for an hour and a half and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. He played some new music, the new CD is fabulous. He played some old music, it was the perfect mix of songs. He is a humble and talented man."
"Spiritual and then some. His playlist was great and in some cases, I preferred the stage version over the studio version."
Ottmar and his two band members are outstanding together. Very entertaining and he leaves you wanting to hear more of his music.
Don't ever miss his concerts!!! I see him every time he is in South Florida
I have followed Ottmar Liebert since the early 1990s, but I have never seen him in person until Saturday night at the Aventura theatre. He is an incredible artist, Robby Rothschild on drums was sensational, and the guitarist/bass player could make those strings sound like a percussion horn. A word about the venue. This is the first time we have been at the Broward Center, but certainly won't be the last. The whole venue with the other main theatre, and the water taxi made for a memorable evening. I would also like to something about the House on the River restaurant. Great food and an excellent waitress (can't remember her name), and just a block walk to the Broward Center. This is even our first time in Ft. Lauderdale. We stayed at the Riverhouse Hotel and had a great experience. Also, the men's store Maus&Hoffman deserves a shout out. Particularly Rey Rosas my saleman. One if the finest men's stores I have been to in years. No wonder they have been in business for over 80 years.
Really enjoyed the music! The venue was clean and comfortable in an intimate setting. Was not expecting so very satisfying experience. Would definitely return and recommend.
Love his music. Been listening for over 25 yrs. This was my first time seeing Ottmar live in concert. The concert setting was boring, more suitable for a small room, lounge or bar. Large screen above and behind him displaying random photos he personally took. Didn't play any popular or recognizable music until the very end. Played about 10 songs straight before even addressing or speaking with the audience once, briefly. Gave no background info on himself, what inspired some of the songs or anything interesting. Got the impression he didn't want to be there and was not enjoying the show himself. His percussionist was more entertaining. The show was such a turnoff, I doubt I'd even want to listen to his music anymore.
Beautiful experience. Ottmar never disappoints. Enjoyed his slides as well.
The venue was perfect for the quality of the sound and mood - balcony seats were still great. Theatre size added to intimacy of experience! The musicians were exceptionally talented and the music is impactful on a soulful and spiritual level. My parents were mesmerized listening to them for the first time.
It’s been at least 20 years since I saw Ottmar Liebert in concert and the experience left me in a blissfully sublime state that I have rarely if ever encountered. His music infused every cell of my body with a rapturous delight the memory of which will endure for the rest of my life.
I've been listening to Ottmar L for over 30 years. I played guitar when I was younger. I dance with latin and ballroom music. I also enjoy listening to other flamenco musicians.
It was a great concert/evening, at a great venue (The Birchmere).
