Phish in Concert
Probably no other band around today is more about the live experience than Phish. As the undisputed kings of the jam-band movement that began in the '80s and exploded in the '90s with bands like Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, and The Spin Doctors, they defined a style that was song-based but also about improvisation and the magic of the moment. When they brought their creative collision of rock, jazz, funk, folk, and country influences to a quickly expanding grassroots fan base in the '80s, a movement was born -- one in which the music was constantly developing before the audience's eyes and ears. Trey Anastasio's guitar, Page McConnell's keyboards, Mike Gordon's bass, and Jon Fishman's drums engage in a four-part conversation that's constantly evolving. Whether the band is playing tunes off classic Phish releases like 'Billy Breathes' and 'The Story of the Ghost,' or performing one of their famous Halloween shows where they cover another artist's album in its entirety, like The Who's 'Quadrophenia' or Talking Heads' 'Remain in Light,' Phish is always in flux. While headlining festivals like Bonnaroo, or hosting their own, like The Clifford Ball and Magnaball, or keeping an event all to themselves, the band maintains an unbreakable connection with their huge, hardcore audience of Phish Heads.
Phish Background
Phish got its start at The University of Vermont in 1983, when guitarists Trey Anastasio and Jeff Holdsworth, bass man Mike Gordon, and drummer Jon Fishman started jamming informally. But by the mid '80s, when Holdsworth had departed and keyboardist Page McConnell arrived to solidify the band's lineup, the band was truly beginning to define its sound -- a mix of Grateful Dead-inspired psychedelic jamming, jazzy fluidity, and funk-savvy grooves. Phish released its first, self-titled album in 1986, but like the Dead, they were always more about the live experience than the recording studio. And by the end of the '80s they were hitting the road hard, building up a hefty, dedicated audience and pretty much creating the jam-band circuit in the process. Their songwriting shone on albums like 'A Picture of Nectar,' 'Billy Breathes,' and 'The Story of a Ghost,' while their concerts became a nexus for thousands of hardy Phish Heads. You can't keep Phish out of water for long, and these days they continue to take their idiosyncratic but infectious sound to the people, creating new generations of Phish fans along the way.

Whoo hooo! Need I say more? Um. Well. You may wish you were there.
Phish is back and ready to rock!! I recommend this band for everyone.
Well with a bunch of phriends of mine said going to a Phish show would change everything that I thought about the band - oh how they were right... The "experience" was top notch night 1 was a rip your face off and leave it at the Gorge kind of event - I had never seen anything like Friday night - amazing! Saturday night I hung back and enjoyed the show as well - overall great times with great friends and the Gorge & PHISH!
On many levels, the Friday Phish show at the Gorge was transformative. The music was tight; the crowd was grooving, and it was a phenomenal concert experience. A great peaceful vibe and fun - even though I couldn't dance.
this concert was so great. phish was awesome live and completely flawless. so many neat people at the concert as well
Saturday night at the Gorge was awesome with Phish! There was so much high energy, and the crowd was highly enthusiastic and ready to rock.
some nice segues and great jamming. Sneakin Sally and Destiny peaked their heads. Can't wait for night 2.
It was an amazing time. One that I'll never forget, the views were spectacular and the people/scene was even better. I'll be back for sure some day.
I cannot begin to explain in words how special this show was for me, I think I am still soaking it all in. I was missing quite of few people there, wish they were there. Thank you so much for letting be myself again.
They're back and on. Great show, great lights, great venue.
A popular touring band amongst devoted fans, Phish did not disappoint kicking off their late summer tour with four back to back shows at the beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. With rocking crisp sound, a state of the art light show, and the Rockies as a backdrop, these shows were surely ones to remember.
Killer venue. Killer band. What a great show. The Jim, Chalkdust, Gin opener definitely set the mood for the night. Middle of the first set slowed down a bit but picked up at the end with a nice SOAM as the rain poured down. Drowned, Crosseyed to open the 2nd set. Absolutely nuts! Then they threw in a Fluffhead, Piper, Day in the Life to close the set. What a night. One of the best shows I've seen.
Simple yet EPIC !!!!! The band the fans become one. An experiment that's end result was like an antelope, .....out of control !!! NOT for the faint of heart, or the mild soul.
I think they did a good job overall, I see them every chance I get!
Insanely fun show - glad the phish people are back!
It's not often that you get to see Phish indoors at a venue with a capacity of less than 10,000. This was about 7,000. Everywhere in the venue was a good place to be. Sound was better than expected for a place like this, and the band was on fire. They had fun playing for a smaller crowd and felt very comfortable on stage. It's always great when Phish does something unique—debuting a song, witty banter, storytelling. This concert had all of that, so it was an unforgettable one to attend!
Phish played very well together to not have toured in over 4 years. Trey was very crowd oriented and enjoyed playing with Phish, something he did not show during their tours before their last hiatus. I hope they come back to NC soon. The best fans in music, period.
My fiance went and said that it was a really good show!
Unforgettable show and great, intimate venue. Sick, sick, sick tube.
Come'on what can you say? They came, saw, and blew your mind!
