Pittsburgh Steelers History

The fifth-oldest franchise in the NFL, the Steelers were founded on July 8, 1933, by Arthur Joseph Rooney. One of the great pioneers of the sports world, Art Rooney, or "The Chief," is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Originally named the Pittsburgh Pirates, they were a member of the Eastern Division of the 10-team NFL. The Steelers have won eight conference championships, 24 division championships and six Super Bowl championships. They became the first NFL team to win six Super Bowl championships when they defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, and are tied with the New England Patriots for the NFL team with the most Super Bowl wins. Many legendary players have worn the Steelers jersey over the years, including Terry Bradshaw, Jerome Bettis, Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Franco Harris, and Troy Polamalu, among others.

With the hiring of Lowell Perry in 1957, the Steelers became the first NFL team to hire a Black assistant coach. They were also the first team to have a Black Super Bowl MVP when Franco Harris won the honor in 1975, and they were the first to hire a Black Coordinator with Tony Dungy in 1984, and the first female full-time athletic trainer with Ariko Iso in 2002.

  • Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor Museum and Draft Party

by Steelers Girl in Atlanta on 4/30/24Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The Steelers Hall of Honor Museum is a must see for all Steelers fans. It is very well done, the staff is amazing and it is a wonderful experience. The NFL draft party at Acrisure Stadium was fun and very entertaining. There were many activities and interesting moments. We will cherish these memories forever!

  • Steelers Draft Party

by Louie on 4/30/24Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

For this being the 1st time attending the event, we had a wonderful time. However, if there was one smallest detail to change, it would be the ticket color. We stood in the wrong line for 30 minutes until a staff member informed us to enter Gate B because we were in the season ticker holder line. Thank you.

Pittsburgh did it right when it comes to involving their funs in the draft celebration. My family was pleased with the activities and opportunities that were at the2024 draft day party. Definitely a fan-centered event.

Plenty of activities for all ages. Really nice how they opened the field up for people to play and "dream". Loved the Q& A session with Arthur Moats and Cam Heyward's podcast.

  • errors

by atlanta steeler on 2/29/24Rating: 3 out of 5

In the "about"piece the author has two errors....first it was stated that the Steelers won their 6th Super Bowl winning over the Seattle Seahawks....second, Franco Harris MVP Super Bowl performance was listed as in 1957...? Come on now...who is proofreading this stuff?

  • Terrible Delay

by LisaVas on 12/14/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

We always have a great time at Steelers games, but the lightning delays on Sunday Dec 12 vs the Cardinals were horrible! 90 minutes of watching weather radar on the Jumbotron. Couldn't they at least have put one of the other NFL games on the screen to keep us occupied??? Also, the Steelers need to step it up!!! That game and the next one on Dec. 7th vs the Patriots were the most horrible games I've ever been in the stadium to witness!

  • Amazing

by Jean on 12/10/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

For me this was a fantastic game, because I am a Patriots Fan. This is the second time I came to Pittsburgh to watch a game and the won twice. So me it was great. As for my husband not so much. He is a Steelers Fan, but he had a great time anyways. The atmosphere in the stadium was crazy loud. Would we do this again, absolutely. We will be back Pittsburgh.

  • Lousy Food - Expensive Parking

by nag on 11/6/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

I've been to several NFL Venues, this was not a good experience. Parking is ALL PRE-PAID, if you venture to the park without a guaranteed spot you are in trouble. The food is mediocre at best, first of all almost no food vendor is located where the maps say they should be, after that the selection says nothing about Pittsburgh (e.g BBQ, hot-dogs, pizza, nachos - all not Pittsburgh). Chickies and Pete's is a Philly thing and Permanti Bros has jumped the shark.

  • A predictable but good experience!

by jrasey on 11/5/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

The theatrics of the Steelers don't change much but it's always a consistently solid time!

  • Awesome

  • Game experience

by Berrie on 10/20/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The game was great!! The comeback was totally awesome giving us the fans a thrill of a lifetime. The crowd had a great interactions with the game and I love the pink terrible towels that was giving out. The experience was a thriller which I enjoy and can't wait to attend another game It was so much offered within the area of the stadium which was and is a great plus. Steeler nation is #1 for sure!

  • Excellent

by Starr on 10/12/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Was a great experience.. I think the cups could be better 10 bucks n u get a generic cup to take home

  • No Need For Cash

by Wallace on 9/21/23Acrisure Stadium - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

Acrisure Stadium is cashless, that's not a good thing. There's no need for that.
