Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more. And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound. Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums. Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi. Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems. And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.
After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally. But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012. Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.
As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.
Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety. Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.
Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel. Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people. Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.
Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

The show was wonderful. I've wanted to see the Pixies for a long time. Glad to finally have the opportunity. The venue was great. The beer prices were very high. No way I was going to pay that much for a can of beer.
I didn't feel the energy though that I get from listening to their album.
Modest Mouse was great, I felt really bad for them having to play in that heat, I was miserable from it sitting in the stands. You would think with all the money they spent on this place, they could have hired an architect that took into consideration the suns movement and added shade structures to the Amphitheatre. The pixies were great, and it had started to get dark, so it was more enjoyable, but I bounced early to avoid getting stuck in a max exodus from parking lot F. They could have started the whole show later and most of these issues would have been mostly quelled. The designing architect should be fired.
Pixies & Modest Mouse put on an amazing show! Modest Mouse’s performance really rocked. The guitarist was amazing. Pixies had amazing vocals and sang every song I wanted to hear. The venue was comfortable and staff was very nice.
I have always loved the Pixies since the beginning however I had never seen them. What a kick ass show! Modest Mouse was awesome as well. We really enjoyed the evening!
Except for Cat Power was a great show. Seemed like she might have been ill, she butchered Here Comes a Regular, I didn't know much about her so I can't really rate the other songs. Modest Mouse and the Pixies were A level. Though it seems the Pixies missed a few songs maybe it was a curfew situation or I noticed people started leaving a little after 10 (show ended at 1030) maybe the Pixies figured if people were leaving they wouldn't do the last few songs. I dunno. Great venue perfect size reminds a bit of 1st Avenue.
I’ll start with the positives, not a long wait to get in, never a wait for drinks or the bathroom…which never happens. I got red room tickets and the description when purchasing was not helpful. Over all I’d say not with the extra money. Stood in the back, acoustics were good, sound was good. We ubered so can’t say anything about parking.
The show was good but it wasn’t sold out. I think part of the issue is the ticket price was too high. Ticketmaster is pricing people out of good shows!
I have seen the Pixies many times, and although nothing can match the vibe from the early days, as an older fan, it was one of the best shows hands down. Frank can still scream, Joey's guitar was mesmerizing and the new bassist was flawless....the only song missing was Gigantic.
Been a fan for a long time. Finally got to see them in person. They were awesome. Joey Santiago was the big surprise. I always liked his guitar playing but watching him live gave me a new level of respect for his playing.
This was a really good venue. Well organized and planned. The lines for merch food and alcohol wasn't terribly long. Seemed to be a lot of booths for each thing
Rockin' the best songs on a super hot summer nite.
The Pixies were great - Modest Mouse was super - Cat Power was fun I do not regret going at all - I made the choice but I can not pay $500, All - In , to see them ever again There are significant expenses to run these shows I am sure, but it is just a fact - it is too much, no matter how well the facility is run I am Glad I got to see these bands one last time great memories
It was very good, but i was a tiny bit disappointed that i couldn’t hear Isaac Brock very well. I loved singing along with all the songs i knew. I just wish they played my favorite song by them (my ultimate favorite song in the whole world) Ground Walks With Time In A Box! But it was still my favorite concert i’ve been to! Thank you so much Issac Brock and Modest Mouse!
Loved these bands since day one- both did not disappoint! MM and Pixies were phenomenal and put on a great set and performance. Loved this venue also!
Loved the show. Hadn't been to a concert in 20 years and seeing the Pixies was on my bucket list. I really loved the show, their set and Cat Power! But wow, how can you justify charging people $25 for ONE beer?!? Yikes! I felt like I was in a bad dream. I wanted to have maybe 3, 4 beers but only had one single beer the entire night. No way in hell would I pay that and I think I may skip these bigger venues from now on. Only small places from now on, where they don't literally rob you like these people did with the beer and food prices. You guys need to come down, and your sales would skyrocket. The life of the crowd would be bigger too. It was a great show but $25 for one beer is just wrong, on so many levels.
Wow! Just wow! Great venue too! Modest Mouse also rocked. What a great show!
When it does not rain that is the best venue in midwest. Beautiful surroundings and water, sun and fun best ever!!!
Great venue Great live performance Pixies and Modest Mouse gave everything into their performance I already enjoyed these two bands. But now I have a deeper love for them both!
