ABOUT PORTUGAL THE MAN:

Over the past decade, Portugal The Man has established themselves as one of rock's most prized possessions and a live phenomenon, with over 1,600 shows under their belts and a storied reputation as festival favorites.

Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band - comprised of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Eric Howk, Jason Sechrist and Zoe Manville - soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their RIAA certified-gold album, Woodstock. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, "Feel It Still," which earned the group a plethora of new accolades - including a GRAMMY award for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," a 6x RIAA platinum certified single certification, a mind-blowing 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves.Alongside the shine of their myriad musical accomplishments lies the group's long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection on which Portugal The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This dynamic inspired them to officially launch their PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples.

Their continued passion for activism has also led to recent partnerships with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few.

Music great but videos and light show needs work!

by JENNY on 5/18/24The Sylvee - Madison

Loved the music! Band mostly in the dark. Video of band members and video of John from the floor would have been better if it was in focus.

    Sound Person Screwed Them

by Bc on 5/18/24The Sylvee - Madison

The sound was not great. Two hours of heavy bass and snare. Vocals should have been the highlight but they were very muffled by everything else. I stood right next to the sound booth. They should have heard everything I did.

    Favorite Band EVER

by Kelli on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

I've seen Portugal so many times and still can't get enough of them!! The sound was so good at the Salt Shed, they rocked the hell out! They were strictly business this round, not a lot of talking and played a lit of their newer songs. Appreciate their voices for the indigenous people.

by Best show at best venue ever on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

What a show! Salt shed is the best venue in Chicago. The lords of Portland experience was incredible. 2 1/2 hours of portugal the man and im already hoping for a 3 night run for them next time. Great meeting the band, they seemed like the greatest crew!

    Vocals were impossible to hear

by Spiceboy on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

First time to attend a show in the shed at Saltshed. Don’t know if it is the shed’s acoustics, the sound system, the band’s performance or the sound mixer but the vocals were impossible to hear and understand. Was very disappointed.

    Portugal The Man rocks

by Joslay on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

They were amazing. The guitar Solos gave me chills. They sound was stellar and their performance was on point. One of the only bands that I love every single song of theirs. Their live performance was better than I could have hoped for

    Somewhere Between Disappointing and Terrible

by MusicFan on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

This concert was lacking on every level. As a Christian, I would rather not bash both bands in detail but suffice to say, we left early.

    Great venue, difficult sound

by Kyle on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

The venue and show was great, but the sound was difficult to make out more subtle sounds such as vocals

    Not. What I expected.

by RichA on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

I have heard the group's music on the radio and other music outlets, listened to the last two albums the group put out and found it very enjoyable, fun, upbeat and positive. The sound and style of their recordings almost puts them in the 'Pop' category for me with a good beat and clear and up-front vocals leading the way, and that is the show that I was expecting. I understand that the band is categorized as 'Alternative', HOWEVER, I was not at all prepared for what I saw and heard at their live show. Portugal. The Man performed from a heavy stage set up, with a big drum kit, big keyboard set up, guitars and bass to the sides and the vocals up front. The lighting was from overhead and behind, making it difficult for me to really see the performers from the front. The sound they produced was of a style much different to what I hear on normal air play; Heavy beats and percussion, loud guitars and bass all overwhelming the vocal instruments, not what I expected them to sound like live. The people on the floor seemed to have been enjoying themselves, dancing and moving, but the grown-ups I saw, as well as myself weren't having the best time. I've seen Patti Smith, Black Pumas and Porno for Pyros at The Salt Shed and they all sounded good in that venue, so I'm hoping it wasn't an engineering issue for Portugal. The Man, but I was disappointed. I've seen several shows at The Salt Shed; I think it's a great venue with good access, good and growing services for drinks and food and the Goose Island Pub recently opening. The venue is solid in terms of viewing the stage and acoustics. I'm looking forward to going there for another show, but not Portugal. The Man.

    Wonderful Venue but...

by ms on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - Chicago

The sound was terrible. Very muddled. The band has such a great sound with beautiful voices. Couldn't understand any of it.
