About

Across his career, Shakey Graves--a.k.a. the performance moniker of Austin, Texas-born Alejandro Rose-Garcia--has intentionally created thrilling musical adventures tailored to each fan: burning CDs and putting them in personalized decorated bags; building intricate scavenger hunts that send fans in search of unique tapes; and Bandcamp-exclusive releases.

"The fans and musicians that really resonate with me--and the inexplicable ways that I find things that I like--are usually entirely through randomness and chaos and accident," Rose-Garcia says. "I've always been on this quest to make people feel like my own music is a choose your own adventure."

In 2024 Rose-Garcia celebrated the ten year anniversary of his And The War Came album with a special 10 Year Anniversary Edition release featuring never before heard demos and b-sides from the recording process and inviting fans to enter the long-since abandoned Music House.

His story continues to unfold, but Shakey Graves Is Still A Gentleman From Texas.

  • Parking Ruined the Event

by Joe on 7/3/24Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

Musical acts were great. No fault of theirs, but the venue (Thompsons Point) should not host large events until they figure out parking. It was an absolute disaster before and after the show. Overshadowed what could have been a great night. Avoid this venue!

  • Super bands, super venue.

by Elaina on 7/3/24Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Thompson’s Point is just a great place to see a concert and Trampled By Turtles and Shakey Graves were both dynamic. Long lines for food trucks means waiting and not watching and the bathroom line took the prize. “Sold Out” could have been 200 less people and a profit would still be realized by the organizers with a more comfortable scene. Parking tickets need not be cost prohibitave either. Don’t miss your band at Thompson’s Point…

If you have garbage taste in music, this is the concert for you

  • So good!!!

by MissM on 7/3/24Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Each performer put on a great show and the crowd was so fun - lots of dancing and good times! Rain and thunderstorms were predicted but the weather gods moved it right around the venue. I have a feeling the crowd wouldn’t have minded though. TP is the best!

  • Sound was not very good

by Ted on 7/2/24The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

I really like both Trampled by Turtles and Shakey Graves - but I was rather disappointed with the sound quality at The Anthem - too much bass and reverb - it just washed out all the vocals and instruments. Part of what I really like about these two groups is their intricate instrumentals and nuanced vocals - unfortunately it was difficult to hear anything other than distortion. Maybe it was a mixture of the performers choice of songs where everyone in the band was playing and singing all at once combined with bad sound level that just left everything sounding muddy and unclear.

  • Dissapointed

by Ra on 6/30/24The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Trampled by turtles gave an amazing performance, Shakey Graves on the other hand was torture to my ears and soul, it was just absolutely terrible, I like his solo stuff, but what ever sort of experimentation he's dabbling in is going to be his demise, no one at all enjoyed it. I spent hundreds of dollars to be left very dissatisfied.

  • Big oof

by Chris on 6/30/24The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Too much intentional screeching, feedback, and holding a single note. This show was bad. The high pitch notes were especially painful. Horrible experience. Left early with a couple hundred others.

  • So fun

by Wags on 6/30/24The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Shaky Graves’ show was excellent. Big sound. Great fun. Highly recommend.

  • Muddy sound

by Grump on 6/30/24The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Venue was pretty, artist was phenomenal, sound mixing was terrible. Guitars drowned out vocals the entire time. The artist has the coolest voice and lyrics and we couldn’t experience any of that.

  • Roll The Bones...

by Adam on 5/12/24Sweetwater Performance Pavilion - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

Sweetwater is such a cool, unique venue and Mr. Shakey didn't disappoint! He is a master on the guitar (and suitcase kick drum) that everyone should see live if they get the chance!

  • Unexpected sound change

by Not for me on 5/9/24The Blue Note - ColumbiaRating: 1 out of 5

I've seen him twice before but this was the first time this year. It was honestly great energy from the entire band but it also turned more into a jam band and I hated it. I left after the 3rd song cuz they changed the sound of all the classics to some upbeat jam band. I couldn't stop cringing. I was really looking forward to the edgy rock and emotional journey I always get but the keyboard guy, who I was informed plays in a different band, joins in sometimes. I just wish I knew before going cuz I wouldn't have. Again, amazing energy and the crowd was loving it. But I hated it.

  • Shakey G

by Angel on 5/8/24The Blue Note - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely one of the best & most talented artists I’ve seen. This was it second time & he did not disappoint!

  • Should stick with what he's good at

by Phoinixbird on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 2 out of 5

Shakey Graves should stick with what fans loved in the first place and not his new stuff. Went to see a folk music and ended up at a bad rock concert. Also, why was the whole band dressed up like Ghostbusters??? Venue was great and staff did a good job!

  • Excellent show-will see again

    by T. on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The show was excellent. Would recommend. High energy and audience interaction through out. Great venue, felt small and intimate but with stadium energy

  • Great Night

by Alex on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent venue, great viewing and sound quality. Only real issue is that it can be hard to get to the bathrooms then back to where you were standing.

  • Shakey Graves & Rayland Baxter

by Dani on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome show!!!! Loved the energy of both groups. Fun to watch. Sound was great. Definitely on my list to see again!

  • Shakey Graves and Rayland Baxter

by Jose on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely loved this concert! The opener was amazing and opened me up to another band to be a consistent listen for me. Shakey overdelivered on his performance a put on an amazing show. Both bands delivered great messages and questions to ponder. Couldn’t have asked for more!

  • super fun!

by momwhogoestoconcerts on 11/22/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was the last show of the tour, so this review won't help others, but if you are able to go back in time, go to this show! Rayland Baxter rocked it as an opener and Shakey Graves killed it! I had been trying to see Shakey for a few years now, and wasn't disappointed! I'd see both of them again for sure!

  • Not Impressed

by Scott Moen on 11/21/23The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 1 out of 5

I was not impressed with the performance. He lacked stage presence (opening act - Ragland Baxter - was better) and the song choices were not the best. Very slow show with only a few of his folkish songs in the middle. However, the Sylvee is a great venue to watch a concert…would go there again!

  • It keeps getting better

by Steve on 11/16/239:30 CLUB - WASHINGTONRating: 5 out of 5

This is the fifth time I have had the pleasure of seeing Shakey Graves. Each show has been better than previous. This performance was sharp. As usual, Shakey immediately connected with the audience. His performance along with that of his band is almost hypnotic. He is responsible for the high level of energy. Great experience. Whenever he is within 3 hrs drive, I will go to hear him.
