Steve Martin & Martin Short on Tour

As two titans of comedy, Steve Martin and Martin Short have conquered film, television, and the stage in the course of their long, dazzling careers. But the live shows that grew out of both their friendship and their undeniable comedic chemistry create something special enough to stand out even among the many achievements of these two show-biz veterans.

In 2015, they worked up a show that combined both of their quirky gifts and started taking it around the country. Even more people got a share of the laughs when one show was filmed for the 2018 Netflix special An Evening You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life, where Short and Martin joke, jab, and jibe with each other and inject a little music into the mix as well. Martin showed off his Grammy-winning banjo prowess and Short displayed his Tony-winning vocal chops.

Later that year, the pair announced a new tour: Now You See Them, Soon You Won't. It presented an evening of all-new material and reunited them with Steve's Grammy-winning bluegrass compatriots — the Steep Canyon Rangers — for a couple of hot-picking musical moments in the bargain.

Steve Martin & Martin Short Background

Steve Martin debuted his offbeat brand of stand-up comedy in the 1960s, when he first reached a wide audience via the TV shows of the Smothers Brothers and Sonny & Cher. His appearances on Saturday Night Live in the mid '70s helped him become one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His idiosyncratic, often absurdist style translated to sold-out arena shows and platinum albums.

In short order he became a film star, with movies like The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was on the 1986 film Three Amigos that he first worked with Martin Short, who had become famous for his outrageous characters and sketch comedy mastery on SCTV and SNL earlier in the '80s.

Short went on to plenty of big films himself, and the two teamed up again in 1991's Father of the Bride as well as its 1995 sequel. Short became a Broadway star in the '90s with shows like The Goodbye Girl and Little Me, and he inhabited the classic character Jiminy Glick in the '00s for his Comedy Central series Primetime Glick. But for all the many accomplishments lining both their legacies, when Martin and Short come together for their live performances, they create an utterly unique comedic force.

    True Professionals

by The Weasel on 5/20/24The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

A truly fantastic experience. The comedy is sharp, topical, nostalgic and hilarious. They work tremendously as a tandem and they are incredibly sharp individually. Not a show to be missed.

Great Show but issues with the Tickets

by MM on 5/20/24The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Every time before the show, I always was able to bring up the tickets on my phone; but at the show, it would not work. And I was not the only one. I think there were just too many people trying to access the wi-fi at the same time. They need to work on this.

Funny, entertaining and well designed show

by Steve Geiger on 5/20/24The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

It was my wife’s birthday. We’re huge fans of SM &MS. Their careers in comedy mirror our lives as we were born shortly after the baby boomer generation so we recognized all their work. They are so complimentary to one another and individually still so funny. The writing was fantastic and so was the flow of events. I was chosen as one of the Three Amigos. I am still on Cloud 9 three days later. My wife was able to take pictures and so if the theater has any to share I am very interested. Steep Canyon Rangers and SM are excellent together and I’m happy we got to hear them at our show. We are looking up their concert dates in our area. I won’t be emailing “no refunds.com”. The show was a big success. Thank you

Funny, but change up your act

by Steve on 5/20/24The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

I’ve seen them 3x’s now. Pre-Covid, last year, and the other day. The past two were the same act with some add-ons. For paying hundreds for a family of four we basically got to see the same act. Don’t get me wrong, they are always funny, but when I’m paying for entertainment, it would be nice to have it updated.

    Great Show !!

by Mickey on 5/10/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

For a couple of old guys, the show was excellent and went for 2 straight hours. They bounced jokes off of each other and just seemed to enjoy doing the show as much as we enjoyed listening to them. And the banjo Rocked !!

    Amazing Night!

by Car on 5/8/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

This show was the absolute BEST!!! We laughed for two hours straight and the bluegrass band was excellent. The only minor drawback was the clarity of some of the conversations and joke punchlines. We celebrated our 40th anniversary that same day and was the perfect "date night"for us!

    It was great!

by DrSBK on 5/8/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Everything was very enjoyable. However, it was a program that could have been more enjoyable if it had been at home on TV. We couldn't hear a good part of it because of the laughter (which was deserved and expected). The people behind us were extremely loud and somewhat spoiled it for us.
