Steve Miller has been an enlivening presence on the American music scene for more than half a century - and, in the course of that era, his releases have sold tens of millions of records and been streamed several billion times. Miller's Greatest Hits 1974-78 received the RIAA Diamond Award with sales of more than fifteen million copies. It is among the 25 best-selling albums of all time.
At the start of his career, Miller soon became a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late '60s. With albums like Children of the Future, Sailor and Brave New World, Miller perfected a psychedelic blues sound that drew on the deepest sources of American roots music and simultaneously articulated a compelling vision of what music - and, indeed, society - could be in the years to come.
Then, in the '70s, Miller crafted a brand of pure pop that was smart, polished, exciting and irresistible - and that dominated radio in a way that few artists have ever managed. Hit followed hit in what seemed like an endless flow: "The Joker," "Take the Money and Run," "Rock'n Me," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Jet Airliner," "Jungle Love," "Swingtown" and "Abracadabra," among them. To this day, those songs are instantly recognizable when they crop up online or on the radio - and impossible not to sing along with. Their hooks are the very definition of indelible.
Running through Miller's distinctive catalog is a combination of virtuosity and song craft. And that's no accident. His parents were jazz aficionados - not to mention close friends of Les Paul and Mary Ford - so, as a budding guitarist, Miller absorbed valuable lessons from that musical tradition. When the family moved to Texas, Miller deepened his education in the blues, eventually relocating to Chicago, where he played with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy and Paul Butterfield. That range of sources informs his music to this day.
In recent years, Miller has fully immersed himself in the blues and its many byways. As he has always done, he continues to find creative outlets for the full panoply of his musical passions. On his successful tours with the Steve Miller Band, he complements the commercial peaks of his extensive catalogue with lesser-known songs that expand his fans' awareness of the range of his work. As a member of the Board of Directors at Jazz at Lincoln Center, he has curated and headlined a series of shows that explore themes like the bridge from blues to jazz in the music of guitar great T-Bone Walker; the distinctive sounds of the blues triangle of Memphis, Texas and Chicago; the resonances between the singular musical creations of Ma Rainey and Miles Davis; the deep American roots music of Appalachia; and Cannonball Adderley and the Blues. In addition, at the request of Wynton Marsalis, he is defining a blues pedagogy for Jazz at Lincoln Center. He is also a member of the visiting committee of the Department of Musical Instruments at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Indeed, five of his guitars were displayed in "Play It Loud: The Instruments of Rock and Roll," a groundbreaking exhibition at the Met that ran for six months in 2019. Miller was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 and has been elected for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022. He has recently begun to open his vaults for the first time, releasing the acclaimed Welcome to the Vault box set in 2019 and Breaking Ground Live! August 3, 1977 in 2021.
With each listen the beauty and immediacy of Miller's work, whether at its most playful or most serious, is palpable. As always, whether he was riding the top of the charts or traveling the endless blue highways of American music, you can hear him playing and singing with conviction and precision, passion and eloquence, making music that is at once immediately accessible, thrillingly alive in the present, respectful of the past, and more than able to stand the test of time. - Anthony DeCurtis

Love Steve! Still amazing at 81. Want to see him again, hopefully in 2025!!
Steve Miller still can put a show on . Terra Haute Mill is a great place to relax and enjoy a show as well . Thanks "Joker Steve "The "AcoustaKat Pat "!!!
Great concert, light show could have been a little better
The concert was great - but it seemed like he was just going from song to song not really exciting the crowd. Music was great though. The pianist rocked . His backup didn't really do much for the crowd even though he tried.
The weather was perfect and the Steve Miller Band rocked the house. Excellent show very impressive for an 81 year old man I would go back and see him again anytime
My husband and I had a wonderful time... when I was a kid my dad wouldn't let me listen to the music I liked... he played his music... and Steve Miller Band was one of them... I've loved them since I was 12 years old... im now 50... my father has been gone 3 years now and this was a concert to remember him. I could not have asked for a better night.
For being 81 he put on a great performance. Seen them when I was a young teenager and now in my fifties. Nothing had changed! Still as great as ever ❤️❤️
This was our 4th time seeing The Steve Miller Band. Always a fantastic show!!
This was a great event. This band sounded incredible considering the age of the band. You would not have even known it wasn't 1978. The venue was perfect. Great night for a concert.
Normally I love going to The Mill , but that night it was overcrowded. I didn’t like being on top of others. You couldn’t hardly get out to use the bathroom . The lines to get food, drinks, and bathrooms were very very long! And they ran out of a lot of things we wanted before it even started ! I hope they will expand the mill to accommodate more people and not squish them in.
They showed up and didn’t disappoint! Was really glad they came to our local venue, The Mill of Terre Haute! I know this will help bring more big acts like them!
The Steve Miller Band was in great form and it was like a flash back to the 70’s! Being at such a cool venue set the prefect stage…of course the weather did its part. They played all their hits and the opening act was super! Don’t hesitate to go to a Steve Miller Band concert, you won’t be disappointed.
Great opening act with Mark Mackay! Played some of his songs and entertained with covers within the SMB genre! Steve Miller Band rocked all their hits and my family and I were singing along all concert! This checked off a bucket list item for me, he left me wanting no more, just with a great experience!!
Steve Miller at 81 is amazing. Every song was a hit and that's what we went for. The Mill is a wonderful venue with clean, crisp, and loud sound. Only ding is lack of back up bands.
What a beautiful night. Steve Miller Band was on point just as I remembered. They sounded excellent. Rock on!
Excellent musicians! If you truly appreciate music, this is a fantastic show. No acrobats or fireworks, just amazing musicians who really know how to put on a clinic. He is a great story teller.
Seeing the Steve Miller Band was truly such an unforgettable experience! I grew up listening to them with my dad and am so grateful to have to experience their magic live. His solos were amazing, but honestly his performance in Livin’ in the USA was one of the most incredible performances I have ever seen live. I appreciate how he worked with the vocal range he was comfy with instead of trying too hard. I thought it was insane that they were the opening act and couldn’t believe it was so empty! SMB forever baby🤘🏽
Saw them in Dallas with Def Leppard and Journey. They put on an awesome show, he sounds just the same as back in the day. Was impressed with the music selections by them, and loved the beautiful blue guitar. Concert started right on time, so glad I went, would definately go again if I had the chance.
One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Sound quality, visuals were excellent and musicians were excellent, I know I'm one. Not a bad seat in the house, I believe. Would go see Steve Miller Band again!!
The Lynn Auditorium was a very pretty venue, but the audience was talkative throughout the warm-up act and Steve Miller. Rudeness increased with the amount of alcohol consumed. The person behind me dumped their Truly-like beverage all over my seat, because they couldn't hold onto it and talk at the same time apparently. If I'd wanted a bar experience, I'd have gone to a bar, not to this venue. Parking was OK, but very hap-hazzard and pricey. Steve Miller and his band gave a memorable performance and got people on their feet. His voice is still strong and his songs are ageless.
