  • Not as good as hoped

I used to go to Second City in the 70's - in the days of John Belushi and Bill Murray. Trust me, this was NOT the BEST of Second City. We have seen their touring company once before, and both times came away disappointed. It's not that they're not talented, try hard, or that we don't have some good laughs. It's just that they never seem to measure up to our expectations. Plus, in our case, we traveled an hour to see the show. So I was glad I went, because I would have wondered how good it was if we DIDN'T go. But it just didn't live up to what I had hoped.

  • Not the Best of Second City

The show was just OK; nothing spectacular, although there were a few performers that stood out and would expect to see them on a bigger stage (SNL?) someday. Glad tix were only $25.

  • show was just OK.

Many times hard to hear and distinguish what the ladies were saying. Need to slow and enunciate. A few good zingers, but overall kind of boring. Maybe a younger generation woud appreciate.

  • couldn't hear it

    by P. E. on 2/6/20Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 2 out of 5

We love everything about the Bijou. Have attended numerous performances in the past years. We often were seated in the balcony, as we were for this performance. Previously, never any problems hearing the performers. However, could understand very little of what was said at this performance. Other people we know also seated in balcony had the same problem. Such a disappointment, waste of time and money. We left a little early. Friends found vacant seats on main floor after the intermission and could understand a little better.

  • Hysterical!

    by B&D on 1/25/20Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

First of all, we love the intimacy of the Bijou Theater. Before the show started we thought we were too close to the stage (3rd row) but that was not the case. We didn’t miss a single word or expression all night, and it would have been a shame if we had. The Second City troop was gut-splitting hysterical. There wasn’t a single bit that fell flat. We’ve decided we will see Second City whenever we have a chance, and in addition, we will look for other shows to attend at the Bijou.

I had seen Second City elsewhere and loved the improv show. This was mostly sketch comedy, very little improv, and not very impressive.

The performance was a lot of fun. They are very talented and I hope they return to DSM soon!

  • Lots of Laughs at Second City

by MLE48 on 2/11/15Des Moines Performing Arts - Temple Theater - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

This was a most enjoyable two hours of fun and comedic action. The group's interaction with the audience in a small, intimate venue made for a great actors-audience connection. Satire and surprise were features of the skits that kept one's attention.
