Excellent job putting C.S. Lewis' book on the stage! Made the book come alive. Highly enjoyed the performance and was glad it went 90 minutes with no intermission. The time flew by. The actors were great and the dialogue on point. Thoroughly enjoyed the production.
Could be my fault - I was under the impression that it was going to be more activity or a change in scenes. Having 1 person do the entire play was painfully boring to me but was super impressive that 1 person could remember around an hour worth of lines. And I am sure it might have helped had a read the book. If it was good, I was going to read the book but now I doubt I will.
Our seats were located in the mezzanine at Cobb energy Center for the performing arts. We were unable to hear clearly the performance due to the sound, arrangement of the speakers? Extremely disappointed, especially considering the cost $90 per person and our expectations of enjoying the performance along with our friends, who were disappointed due to sound quality as well.
Outstanding performance. Outstanding job done by the stage crew.
I was excited to share this performance with my granddaughter.
Great experience and wonderful performances! Highly recommend this to anyone! We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be coming back to see other performances.
I had seen this show in New York years ago and wanted my husband to see it. It has really grown as a production and we both loved it!
My biggest takeaway was that this is a show best performed in a smaller, more intimate venue. The first time I saw it was in the Fletcher Auditorium which placed you closer to the main character and made you feel almost like part of the action. In the main auditorium in Raleigh, you are so far away from the small set, it's more like watching it on tv vs. a live performance. The actor playing Screwtape was fine although I was often unable to understand the dialogue.
The performance was high energy for a full 85 minutes! Both actors did an incredible job! Screwtape maintained his monologue, sometimes at a very precipitous pace, never skipping a beat! He brought such depth of character with both his physical antics and his well-timed inflection. Toadpipe displayed an amazing physical presence, too. He crouched and twitched and made perfectly sinister grunts throughout. The props, sound effects, and lighting really aided in setting the ominous scene, and the way the stage was sloped made the experience more intimate. The timeless story of spiritual warfare is one that needs to be told over and over. I highly commend this FPA performance.
