About

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

  • Should Have Known It

It's been 3 plus weeks since the sudden passing of Tom Petty ... still a little too tough to write a review on the show ... it will be a lasting memory for me

  • Tom Petty great as always

by Alexfromthevalley on 10/23/17Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Tom Petty never disappoints. My family and I attend many shows, and to financially make that happen, we usually choose the cheapest seats at the top. Less expensive tickets, more shows throughout the year. It's unfortunate that at the Hollywood Bowl, people tend to congregate on the back wall and feel that it is ok for them to carry on loud conversations the entire show. People do speak up, but you are usually outnumbered and end up always having background conversation throughout. Keep this in mind when researching Hollywood Bowl tickets.

  • The Show of a Lifetime!

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were incredible! Tom gave his all in this final performance and it was an honor to be in attendance. There will never be another one like him or the band.

  • The last show of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

    by wmo777 on 10/11/17Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Unknown to any of us who attended this event, this would be the last show for TP&HB. What a great show he put on and I'll remember this for the rest of my days.

  • My Last PETTY Concert

by BOBRC on 10/10/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. The first 3-4 songs and the light show were a trip. I had never seen that kind of an event. It was like being in a dream. ELO did something similar at the Bowl in 2016 I was in Honolulu for his 3rd to last show. I was thinking, maybe he'll add some shows and i'll see him when I get back on the 26th Sept 2017. No luck. They add two more shows when I'm still gone. If they had pushed the Bowl shows into Oct. maybe his heart wouldn't have given out ?????

  • Amazing and bitter sweet reflection

by Anonymous on 10/9/17Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 3rd time in 25 years that I was able to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Each time was a different experience. I was so happy to get these tickets for the last show on their tour after the first two LA shows sold out. My husband and I had a great time. It is a bitter sweet reflection now knowing that we saw Tom's last show. I'm so grateful for the experience and the impact he and the Heartbreaks have made on so many people's lives over the last 40 years!

  • AWESOME last performance by Tom Petty!

    by Xmas71 on 10/8/17Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Petty sang songs that he normally doesn't sing. This was the perfect closing concert of the 40th Anniversary tour and awesome last concert Petty will ever perform. RIP Tom!

  • The last and final

by Duecy on 10/6/17Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

My first time at Hollywood bowl and it was awesome. Very happy with the venue except during intermission VERY crowded to get a drink, food, or bathroom. Absolutely awful! Very narrow. Little did we all know it would be our last and final show with Tom Petty. I had the honor to see him 3 times this year. When I left that night with my family we were saying man that guy can still rock it out and he did to the fullest. Thank you for one last show. Concert follower since 1999 R.I.P my favorite legend
