TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

  • TP&H hit the ground running

by HowardO on 6/2/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen TP&H a number of times and this show reminded me when I first saw them back in 1979. They opened strong and stayed that way throughout the show. The new material as well as older stuff was played with passion and intensity.

  • Tom Petty and The Hearbreakers are amazing.

by Anonymous on 3/10/10St. Pete Forum - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to 3 TPHB shows in Tampa FL. From the moment Tom and the boys take the stage I have always been spell bound and could not sit for a moment. My friends and I always leave the concerts craving more. It is the desire for more unbelievable rock and roll that will bring me to the St. Pete Forum for yet another show. This time I went all out on the Mojo Package for myself and 3 of my friends. There is no doubt that I will get what I paid for and more. And this time I won't be in the nose bleed section. I will be on the floor. The only other thing I could possibly ask for is a backstage pass and an opportunity to meet the man and his band. So what do you say guys, maybe you could throw in a few of these for me and my friends?

  • Best show ever in 2008 & coming soon in 2010

by HummingbirdGirl on 3/2/10The Palace at Auburn Hills - PontiacRating: 5 out of 5

Last time at the Palace of Auburn Hills we were drop dead onto the floor jammed by TPHB. Tom and the Boys put on the greatest show where ever they play. Nothing is wasted on high tech backdrops, super effects or smoke and mirrors. Just good old rock and roll where the oldies sound as good or better than the day they were first released. Tom always has good bands to accompany them on tour. They were great in '08 and are coming to a venue near you this summer 2010! Don't miss out on the very best there is. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!

  • Tom Petty Rules

by Taoman on 12/5/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

The online concert was a great idea and worth the cost. Not only did I receive 48 live, rare, recordings but was supplied with many videos and interesting FAQS about the music and performers. I especially enjoyed the various cover songs like "Oh Well, Fleetwood Mac" and "Friend of the DEvil, The Grateful Dead".

  • I loved the Superhighway Tour

by sweetlittlequeen on 11/26/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

Hi folks, Thanks for the opportunity to review my experience with the Superhighway Tour. I thought it was wonderful. I really enjoyed the historical commentary about each new song from the live show and the "live' comments of Tom, Benmont and Mike. I also enjoyed the reviews and I thought it was fun that you also included some of the reviews that were not so positive. All these things helped me appreciate what the actual moment was like. I didn't get much into the merchandise or the t shirts although I thought it was a nice touch - giving as much of the total experience as if we were actually attending a concert. And of course I loved the song selection. I have a lot of Tom's work and it was fun to hear them live and to also receive the live covers of "Friend of the Devil", etc. It gave me even more appreciation for their talent. Thanks to everyone involved in this project!

  • Incredible value and still playing w it

by AmericanGirlsGuy on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

I have been coming back to this site over and over for the past few weeks getting new music and listening to band commentary, looking at old press and photos and cant believe how much stuff is here. I am not sure how they charge $24 for this. Maybe because it's digital, but every label should release their records this way. Makes iTunes LP look like a bad joke. Yesterday i got all 48 songs and cant stop listening on my iPod. This is awesome. Cool way to sell it on Ticketmaster. Great experience.

  • TPATH = Best band in the world

by Mckizo on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a Heartbreakers fan my entire life. I remember being in grade school and my friends thinking I was weird because I listened to music their parents listened to. Having this collection of live performances is really cool. I cant wait to get the live anthology. I really enjoyed hearing Mike, Tom, and Benmont give their personal perspectives on the songs.

  • You showed the world you rock!

    by Steveo55 on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

Having been to numerous TP shows over the last 30 years and NEVER being disappointed I was happy to see Tom and the Heartbreakers releasing a live album that was varied and showed the talent and strength of this band. I remember hearing those songs from the sixties done by the band and thinking not only are they true musicians but they love the music they grew up with. Releasing it like you did was cool and made each week fun as I looked forward to what was coming. Thanks Tom for sharing a big piece of your life with us again. You are the best band in the world and this live collection proves it. Keep rockin.

  • PLEASE GO BACK ON TOUR

    by Schmegs8 on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

The Superhighway Tour was amazing. I've seen them live many times and know they sound great but hearing this just really drove that point home. I love all the "lesser-known" songs as well as the covers. I knew it was going to be great but far surpassed my expectations. Great work! I can't wait to be back in the crowd of a Tom Petty concert! Please hit the road (Jack) again soon!!!

  • New Life

by Dreamcatcherpro on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

Mr. Petty and his crew have once again set a new musical high. Not only did the quality of the music impress me, but how easy it was to navigate the web sight. The live mix brought new life to the songs and once again proves "Rock n Roll never dies". 50 cents a song, what more could a fan want? Thanks Tom and Heartbreakers and Ryan for the experience. Dreamcatcherpro :+)

  • Fun while it lasted

    by stonepony62 on 11/25/09Superhighway Tour - The RoadRating: 5 out of 5

I may be the only one to admit this, but I doubt it! This is one of the best live collections ever!!! Live At Leeds, Comes Alive etc, rank this anthology right there, and having early access was worth the price. $50 off the deluxe package, icing on the case.

  • PETTY :)

by Zobia on 8/28/09Various - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I'm 22, and have been going to Petty shows since I was 8 years old. I've seen them 7 times and everytime the shows just keep getting better. You don't need any convincing, if you're a Petty fan you're a Petty fan, and there's nothing more to it!! Hands down the greatest performance during any single concert I've seen.. He's an amazing entertainer and his band is just as equal. You can't beat the 12-string guitar or Petty's amazing grace! ;) If you have a chance to see this living legend, I highly suggest you do, you won't regret it! And if you happen to show, look for me- I'm always in the first 10 rows :-P

  • Awesome Awesome Awesome Concert

by Sucech on 7/25/09Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

If your a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, don't miss their tour next time around. The band and Petty bring it for the fans. He sounds as good today as the day when their hits were at the top of the charts. A great sing a long concert. Petty directs his attention to all parts of the audience, from one end of the stage to the next. He is humble and thankful of his appreciative fans. A not to miss concert, I'll be there if he comes here again.
