Tutankhamun: another one off the bucket list
by JAWork on 1/19/11Denver Art Museum - DenverRating: 5 out of 5For me this was a major event that I had missed six times before and had no intention of making that seven. By the time we (my wife and I) reached the museum I was so excited that I felt like a little school girl (I'm a very large man). This is one of those things that you know you want to do before you die but are limited on where and when, so it's a do now or miss latter thing when it comes. Take advantage of it while it's here it may never come back and then where would you be.
The show was set-up and presented beautifully with a progression of Egyptian royal artifacts, on one floor, leading to the Tut exhibit, the floor below. The tomb exhibit was divided up by the areas items were found in with a room devoted to each area. The whole exhibit was wide open for ease of spectator flow, all items were raised for better viewing, and most could be observed from all sides. All of the displayed artifacts were right up close and personal, I made sure and get within inches of every one, but with a heavy security presence, so hands off.
The whole show is photography restricted for the protection of the artifacts, kind of a bummer but understandable, so no family album moments. My best suggestion is to cough-up the extra $10 for the audio tour, it's so worth it.
The one thing that I was glad to have prior knowledge of for this show was that they do not display the sarcophagus or the burial mask of Tut. There were a few disappointed people that did not have this bit of info so hears your heads up. Still every bit worth it.
