Wilderado In Concert

Indie rockers Wilderado blend elements of their Southern roots with touches of sunny California dreamin'. This sound very much reflects the band's own evolution: Its members grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, then cut their teeth in Los Angeles, before moving back closer to home. But it was their time on the West Coast that helped establish Wilderado's soaring, muscular indie rock.

The group originally released a handful of singles under the name Bird Dog before dropping their debut EP ‘Misty Shrub' in early 2016. The EP runs on steady, propulsive rhythms, moody acoustic licks, and rich harmonies reminiscent of bands like Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, and Kings of Leon. But soon, after performing shows in Brooklyn, they were forced to change their name (by request of another Bird Dog band). The first day back on tour is when inspiration struck: Driving late at night, they passed through a small Texas town called Wildorado. They decided to swap the "o" out and became Wilderado. With a new name, the band soon slimmed down from a quintet to a quartet and unveiled their new moniker with a second EP, ‘Latigo,' recorded in their own home studio in Malibu. The four-song set further highlights their emotive, folk-tinged rock with anthemic tracks like "Morning Light."

Lead singer/guitarist Max Rainer, bassist/vocalist Colton Dearing, guitarist/vocalist Tyler Wimpee, and drummer Justin Kila would eventually take this sound on the road, grabbing key slots at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits. During this time, they'd work on solidifying their next EP, ‘Favors,' with producer Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, The Shins), giving their anthemic rock some punches of Americana twang and Laurel Canyon mysticism. In the process, they'd settle back in their homebase of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and head back on the road in 2018 alongside art-pop quartet Sure Sure.

  • Wilderado inspired

by IshmishOZ on 10/15/24The Regent Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

These fellas really know how to mix it up. With lyrics that can crush you into reality and a wall of guitars that topple you, mixed in with melodic harmonies, I really have to put these guys on high rotation. Please keep inspiring us and keep digging deep.

  • at the Fillmore

by A fan on 10/14/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

I LOVE this band! You can never beat the Fillmore as a venue. Only feedback is it seemed like the sound mix was off. The bass was nice and loud; however it drowned out the vocals. It was that way for Ethan as well. His vocals seemed muddy. Otherwise, this was awesome to see this band in person. They are really fun to watch!

  • The Takes - a great band

by BTM on 10/14/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Came to see The Takes, not Wilderado or the other band on the ticket. The Takes blew me away. They are going places.

  • Fantastic evening

by JT on 7/30/24The Bluestone - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Wilderado did not disappoint! Great energy and amazing live show. Harbour was a very pleasant surprise. I was not familiar with them prior but they put on an excellent show as week!

  • Decent

by Ryan on 7/27/24Rose Music Hall - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Performance was rather dry and uninspired. Entirely overshadowed by opening act, Harbour.

  • Fantastic show

by Becky on 7/24/24Majestic Theatre - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Even sold out, this venue was comfortable and the sound was fantastic even in the back close to the merch table. Wilderado is an OK band ;) but playing live they are absolutely brilliant. Loved the show and can’t wait to see them again. Great openers too.

  • Excellent Music and Atmosphere

by Ryan on 7/24/24Majestic Theatre - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concert experiences I’ve had. Not only were the band members super cool but the audience they bring together were super nice and inviting. I will 100% be buying tickets next time they’re in the area.

  • Well worth all of it!

by MBuhtanic on 6/23/24The Underground - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

We had seen Wilderado previous to this time but this time was even better! Wilderado is the right amount of rock, right amount of folk and right amount of melodies and harmonies to make for a great night. Plus they closed with a song that means so much to my wife and I. Whenever they are near, I will try to be at their show. Plus the staff at The Underground grabbed a seat for my pregnant wife which was incredibly generous of them.

  • So much energy!

by Vanessa on 6/18/24Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

It feels like Wilderado is on the verge of blowing up -- it was special to experience the intimate energy in the room with their music.

  • Way better live than recorded

I was struck with how much better this group is in person. I almost didn’t go see them but I’m glad I did. Would also have liked them if they included “Head Right” on the set list.
