About

Ten-time Grammy-award winning artist, George Benson, has the rare distinction of being in the pop consciousness while remaining in the pantheon of jazz greats. With 36 studio albums, and 8 live albums, Benson has emerged a household name best known for the 1976 three-time Grammy-winning album, Breezin', boasting the pop-jazz vocal smash "This Masquerade," which topped the jazz, pop, and R&B charts. The album remains one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, and has since been certified 3x platnum. His 1980 soul-pop gem, "Give Me The Night," produced by Quincy Jones and written by Rod Temperton (Michael Jackson), summited to the top of the soul single charts. In 2009, Benson was awarded the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship-- the highest honor that our nation bestows on jazz artists.

Benson is a consummate performer and an adventurous instrumentalist who remains an annual must-see artist. He regularly packs and sells out such hallowed venues as The Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, Hampton Court Palace, and Sydney Opera House. Benson is also a marquee artist at many U.S. jazz and international festivals, including Montreux Jazz Fest and NOJF, Umbria and North Sea to name a few.

Benson's recent accomplishments are varied and aplenty. He collaborated with subversive art- pop band, Gorillaz, featuring Blur's Damon Albarn, to co-write and perform on the track "Humility," which has amassed over 100 million YouTube views and counting. In 2021, DJ Steve Aoki remixed Benson's hit "Give Me The Night," with a rugged house beat introducing the irresistible R&B-pop gem to a whole new audience. He was interviewed by Youtube sensation, Rick Beato, earning 900K views in 3 weeks.  His recent albums have earned features and rave reviews in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, American Songwriter, Forbes, Billboard and Newsweek. In 2020, Benson was inducted to jazz bible DownBeat Magazine's Hall Of Fame. The following year he was inducted by music legend Quincy Jones into New Jersey's Hall Of Fame-- an honor from which he received a personal congratulatory note from President Obama.

  • An Amazing Concert in Every Respect

by Mo on 8/21/24Blue Note Summer Sessions - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

First of all: How does George Benson sound like that & perform like that at age 81! Phenomenal! Outstanding from start to finish. The venue is beautiful, easy to get around & has a variety of seating & eating/drinking options. The sound system is unbelievable, so crisp & clear even at the back of the venue. I enjoyed this so much I bought a ticket for another concert the next weekend. Blue Note has done an outstanding job.

  • Exhilarating

George Benson has still “got it!” His genuine signature sound, strong and melodic. Excellent venue, the Meritage Resort, Napa. The acoustics were nice, his band, as well as their collaboration with the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra -beautifully arranged; salute to his music director! I really enjoyed the “experience” of George Benson. It was Exhilarating and Beautiful! Thank you, George Benson for touring again!

George Benson was amazing. His voice & music are eternally classic. Wish he would had sung all his greatest hits. Love hearing those live.

It was great to see George Benson live, he is truly one of the great legends. Looks good, sounds good, still doing his thing. Loved to see it!

  • Breezin’

by Gpablo on 8/20/24Blue Note Summer Sessions - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Blue Note at Meritage Resort is a great venue. Perfect size as far as attendance! Not overly crowded as sometimes venues can be crowded and overwhelming. What made it even better was the perfect weather we had in Napa for the George Benson concert. My wife and I enjoyed this outdoor concert. Definitely will be going there again in the future 🎵🎵

  • Very good experience

Used to listen to him when he and I were younger I was excited to see him and I wasn’t disappointed

  • Great show!

by pamk on 8/19/24Blue Note Summer Sessions - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

George Benson does not disappoint! He is slowing down but still a great performer. Audio was great, Gold seating was great, parking was manageable, bathrooms were clean. However, we do have a complaint for the venue. We sat behind a couple that had to leave very early (or find other seats) because the people next to them (each side) were so overweight, they squeezed that couple out of their seats. They had to sit sideways, really! (They were normal sized). These two overweight people should have been made to buy extra seats so this couple (or any couple) could enjoy the show in their Gold seats. This is what airplanes do, make overweight people buy an extra seat because they do not fit. There should be a weight limit on the folding chairs in the venue. Or have a designated area where heavier people can sit and not compromises the peoples seats around them. This made the show miserable for that couple if they did not find other seating.

  • Wished I could love it more

by KCC on 8/19/24Rating: 3 out of 5

Concert was good, a bit disappointed to be honest, expected a bit more, was short in my opinion. We paid for Gold, premium seats at Meritage Resort at Napa and did not feel like the seats were comfortable at all. We felt squeezed, had to leave our seats 30 mins into the show, even before George Benson came out. Unless the concert is hosted in a venue where seats or chairs are not zip tie together, where you can actually sit down and cross your legs and be comfortable, don’t think will ever pay for premium seats to watch George Benson again. Very disappointed.

  • Rude people ruined the night

by Lina7277 on 8/19/24Blue Note Summer Sessions - NapaRating: 3 out of 5

I get it! The outdoor concert is a laid back event. But no one said it should be disrespectful of others! We had tickets for the Bronze section, which are unassigned seats. I brought my 75 year old mom to the concert and we were lucky to score the aisle/side seats in the last row. Everything was great until a very outspoken patron chose to converse with a very outspoken usher. They stood a foot away from us, right behind us and were very loud. The concertbwas loud so they tried to be louder. That was very distracting and I politely asked them to take a few steps back away from us, because we were trying to enjoy the concert. Both of then just laughed and the rude concert goer just said "Can you believe it?"to the usher. They laughed at us and continued with their noisy conversation. We got up and moved all the away from the stage view because all the seats were already taken. We listened to The rest of the concert and didn't see the stage. We left early, about 8:45pm. I wish there was some rule about this. Very upsetting.

  • He's Still Got It

by NE1410S on 8/19/24Blue Note Summer Sessions - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Saw George at the Meritage in Napa (a fantastic venue). The warm up was a talented guitarist Giacoma Turra - great but would have been better performing with a live band (seriously - piped-in music in 2024??). Santa Rosa symphony was world class. George's band was outstanding - his guitarist and drummer were two of the best in the state. As for George, I give him alot of credit for performing in poor health. He labored during his singing, making strategic adjustments that were noticeable only if you paid close attention (i.e., limiting himself to singing only 2-3 words at a time, having the legendary singer Amy Keys perform solo, no encores, etc.). Having said that, he still sounded the same way he did 40+ years ago when I saw him in undergrad. His notes were still sweet and "This Masquerade"was still just as haunting as I remembered. George Benson should be on everyone's "must see"list while he's available - he probably won't be performing much longer and we will miss this treasure long after he's gone.
