About

David Mason is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era's most notable musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Mama Cass Elliot. Mason's best known song is "Feelin' Alright" recorded by Traffic in 1968 and covered by dozens of artists, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote "Hole in My Shoe" a kind of psychedelic satire that became a classic in its own right. "We Just Disagree" Mason's 1977 solo hit written by Jim Krueger, has become a staple of Oldies and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.

Dave Mason put on an excellent performance! We still talk about it. His guitar skills and his voice are still awesome! The venue also had great sound. We loved how he was greeting people afterwards at the Merch table and signing albums. His wife was also gracious and presented her new book which I purchased and enjoyed reading.

I had a pleasure to see Dave Mason first time, at TRI County Speedway, I was 17. Fifty years later, he still has not disappointed me. Great venue, I haven't been that close to him. Thank you Dave, your music has been playing, in the background of our life. 😘

  • Reliving the ā€˜70’s

by Sandy on 7/28/24Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

The Ludlow Garage, cozy venue. Acoustics were great. Dave Mason’s guitar riffs and vocals were clean and strong. We were very impressed that there were four vocalists in the band and a special treat that Johnnie Sambatoro was playing and singing, too! We loved hearing throwback tunes from Traffic and Blind Faith. One of the best surprises was their version of The Watchtower.

  • Dave Mason at Ludlow Garage.

What a great iconic artist in a great iconic venue. 500-person capacity makes it feel extraordinary. Not a bad seat in the house except for maybe far left. First time seeing Dave and 2nd time at ludlow. Very easy and safe walk from the B&B that we stay at. Terre haute to Ludlow Garage is an easy drive.

It was more of a meet and greet then a real concert. To many covers and not enough of Dave's material

  • A great performance with an emphasis on Traffic songs

by Jim Z on 7/23/24Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Dave Mason around 6-7 times since the 1980s in at least 3 different cities and states, and he has had different incarnations of approaches. One of the most memorable was in Austin in the 1990s when he was touring with Jim Capaldi from Traffic. All-acoustic and wonderful! I've kept up with him in recent years, so I've seen him a few times in the last decade, and this time he is doing mostly Traffic songs, some of which he didn't even play on originally but it's cool with me for him to play them. Also noted is he re-arranges them so that they are different and interesting, and...rocking. His current touring band really plays well and rocks out when they need to. Most of them sing and others are given some tunes to sing lead on. Dave really looks to be in good health and his guitar and singing skills sound as good as they ever have. The surprise for me was the keyboardist turned out to be Mark Stein, the original keyboardist from Vanilla Fudge, and he also is as good as ever and was a great addition. He got his biggest moment on the first song of the encore set, "You Keep Me Hanging On", of which he sang lead vocal on. But the final treat and song was "Feeling Alright", but with the Joe Cocker arrangement with Mark playing the keyboard part, and Dave singing without a guitar, somewhat channeling Joe C himself (RIP). A great treat which had most of the audience on their feet and grooving. A recommended tour! Go see this lineup while you can! Also, his more recent studio music is worth hearing as well.

A stellar concert. At 78, Dave Mason played and sounded like a young rock and roll hall of famer.
