This was the first Gold Coast Jazz program we have attended. If all of their curated, bespoke programs meet this standard, we will be attending more of their concerts in the future. Both of the auditoriums at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts are excellent; fabulous acoustics and sight lines. The bonus is the neighborhood surrounding the Center. There are great restaurants and sailboat basin is just a great place to hang out before the venue opens. And, there is convenient and reasonable parking. No doubt, Gold Coast Jazz programs are on our agenda for the future.
Fantastic show. Terrific singer and entertainer. Four of us loved the show
Second concert , enjoy it just as much as the first time, he is very talented!
The Tony DeSare Trio was outstanding! His piano playing and singing, the bassist and guitar player were superb!
Tony and his musicians were fantastic. Their music transported the audience to the days of Frank Sinatra. It was fun and insiring and the stories were a nice part of the whole performance.
Warren Wolf is a virtuoso vibes player and the band he was playing with was right there with him. He was also very personable, presenting the different vibes players he was covering as he introduced each song, literally presenting and playing a history of great songs for vibes. An amazing show!
Shelly Berg Trio (with Dafnis Prieto and Carlitos Del Puerto) performing their new music from Alegria was simply FANTASTIC. Venue was great, acoustics wonderful and special guest Etienne Charles a fabulous, fun addition. a PERFECT night! wish they would perform every night! Everyone needs more joy in their life. The CD Alegria is a joyful gift and is nominated for a grammy- which it richly deserves.
Tuba Skinny started out as a street band, and has become a tight, high caliber band. Each of the band members is at the top of their game. They play early jazz and blues standards and a couple of originals. The clarinet, trumpet and trombone players were stand outs, though all are great. The only minor critique is that while they were sharing toe-tapping, playful, and even gaudy songs, they looked as serious as a symphony orchestra. Some bands "sell it"more joyfully with gestures and expressions.
Wonderful concert. The Quintent was tight and cooked. But the performance was marred by a guy who took a seat on the first row (not his) right in front of mine and tried to record the concert. The light from his phone distracted from the performance.
