  • Phenomenal One Man Play

by Felias on 9/15/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - SkokieRating: 5 out of 5

The writing ( done by the star)- the lighting-- staging--story telling--physicality of the performance-- superb. The portrayal of Lenny Bruce : compassionate, gritty, real, sad, funny, deep, thought provoking and memorable. The timeliness of free speech's importance and fragility--really hit home Lovedvit, as did the people who saw it with me.

  • Well played

Kudos to Ronnie Marmo for a pretty fantastic performance. I had a friend, who is not a huge Lenny Bruce fan, along with me for a Chicago (Skokie, IL) show. One of my concerns was that it might be a little too dark, but Marmo does a great job of balancing Bruce's humor and energy with the more disturbing stuff. Also, his venture into the audience at about the midpoint was brilliant. Who would have thought that females more likely to 'touch their pearls' would be willing to publicly disclose their sexual practices.

  • Revealing, Memorable, Reverent!

by Penny Chelios on 9/14/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - SkokieRating: 5 out of 5

I super LOVED this play! Lenny Bruce was relevant, logical, and beloved. His story should be known by all. This provocative performance is funny and tragic all at the same time. Bravo to an amazing actor!!!!

  • Informative

I left feeling informed about the trials Lenny Bruce faced in his life. Mr Marmo brought so much life to the character with his movements and facial expressions and yes of course it was serious but also very funny. It was a great date night.

  • Quite a One-Man Show

by MGB on 9/12/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - SkokieRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was quite a performance for one actor to put on. We didn't know what to expect. Was it going to be a comedy routine or a play? It told a story of Lenny Bruce and was thought provoking for the "modern times"we are currently experiening.
