About

For years there, Livingston felt like an outsider. “And the reality is there are millions of others who feel the exact same way,” the ascendant singer-songwriter says, looking back. “Down to details and their exact waking and sleeping thoughts.” Knowing he was hardly alone in feeling different, though, the artist born Drake Livingston began crafting music that helped him connect to others. He was confident that so many out there could relate to his struggle and feel hope and connection via his music. “It’d be great to write a song for everyone,” he clarifies of the creative approach he takes to his emotional, highly personal and intricately crafted pop songs, “but I want to write a song for the kid who feels exactly like I do.” It’s in this way Livingston speaks directly to his listeners.

The creative, ever-engaging result of his work marks a stunning introduction to one of the most exciting new voices in pop music. On the heels of his 2020 debut EP Lighthouse which amassed over 50 million streams on Spotify, Livingston released An Unlikely Origin Story, undoubtedly his most fully realized and accomplished work yet. Whereas his debut, he says, centered on youth and identity struggle, his latest is “as much about facing a huge brave new world, a massive new environment and feeling like you don’t know how to process it all.” It’s not surprising such themes would emerge from Livingston: over the past year since he signed with Elektra Records, the 20-year-old has been on a rollercoaster ride that’s taken him from his native small-town of Denton, Texas to New York, Los Angeles and back, all as he introduces himself and his music to the world. To that end, “As much as I still feel like the kid in the back of the class, I hope those are the kids I’m speaking to,” he explains. “I hope those are now the kids my music is reaching.”

Raised on a healthy dose of 2010s pop music — Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Imagine Dragons — Livingston says he was “conditioned from early on” to gravitate towards pop-influenced sonics. But what makes his music so dynamic is the way in which he plays with pop convention and by using outré production choices, then flips them on their head. The constant in his music, however, is simply that it carries with it a pristine sense of storytelling. Whereas the pop music he consumed on the whole regularly had “incredible hooks that felt empowering and uplifting,” oftentimes Livingston says, “they were so big and so universal that I felt them difficult to apply to my life in particular. By contrast, “I noticed the artists I loved the most” — from J Cole to Jon Bellion — “were the ones that were speaking to me and no one else in the world.”

  • LIVINGSTON a hometown odyssey

by Robina' on 1/31/25Bogart's - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Livingston live in cincinatti november 7th! Ran across his social media posts in may,and immediately was hooked! I was in a low place at the time, and his music seemed to lift me up! I listened to his music all day long everyday, counting down to the day of the show! I had to travel almost 2 hrs from lexington,ky which I've done many times over the years to see my favorite bands! The show was spectacular as to be expected with livingston! Bogarts always a blast,I'd love to see Livingston live again, but a little closer to home! Not that I wouldn't travel to see him again! I'm not really sure what happened in may,the timing was nothing short of a miracle! Drake Livingston saved my life, and I am truly grateful!! I believe that this young man has the power to change the world,I know 1st hand because of his music and his presence I am still here!

  • Epic night o2 Institute Birmingham

by Janine on 1/28/25Rating: 5 out of 5

What can I say. I almost didn't go because I was going by myself...that would have been the biggest mistake of my life! Livingston owned that stage, and his performance was worth waiting in the cold weather. I honestly don't know how someones music can make you feel as good as his does. If you haven't been to one of his concerts then I suggest you go at your first chance to, you won't be disappointed. His music, his voice and his energy...I didn't want it to end. I have only heard his tracks for a little over a year but live is even better. I will be going again at my next chance, hopefully it won't be long until he is back in the uk. Livingston if you're reading this then come back soon.

  • Performance of a lifetime

by Jes on 12/9/24Majestic Theatre - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Livingston had a setlist with wonderful down to earth moments where he snuck into the crowd and sang an older song. He was upbeat and jumping around on stage. There were young kids and older people all singing along. 10/10 would see again.

  • Last (wo)Man Standing

    by Makp234 on 12/9/24The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 5 out of 5

I went along as a guardian and came home as a believer. Livingston touched my heart deeply. His stage presence is incredible. How he is immediately able to connect with his audience and pull them into his music with his personal story entwined in his lyrics and his insatiable energy while performing them is invigorating and refreshing. I found Livingston to be the most authentic and raw performer I have witnessed, and I attend the symphony! Visiting with him after the concert sealed the deal. He is a sincere human who truly loves what he does and hopes to inspire others to do the same. "Never stop creating." My 13 y.o. daughter and I love you, Livingston, and I mean that in the most respectful way...with maybe just a touch of fangirling.

  • Amazing

by Adriana (Archie’s mom) on 12/7/24The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was amazing. My family and I are big fans especially my six-year-old. He has a speech disorder but ever since he’s been listening to Livingston music it’s really helped him. He’s been speaking a lot more now. He absolutely loves his music and his songs. It was the best night of my son‘s life. He got a good spot to see Livingston perform and at the end we waited to meet him by the bus. Livingston took a picture with him. My son was so starstruck made me very emotional to see my son so happy.

  • Livingston at Ace of Spades

by Ian A. on 12/4/24Ace of Spades - SacramentoRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome venue and the concert was amazing and Livingston was just great. His voice sounded like his albums. I couldn’t believe just how perfect he was. What a great show. I also purchased the lounge tickets as well and that room was awesome with its own tables and couches and its own bar and pool tables. Just such a cool venue itself to get away from the crowds and chill and relax. We had a great time and still go out and listen to the music and come back and relax and have some drinks and eat some great food. What a great time. I would recommend this for our next concerts and also for anyone who might be thinking about something like this.

I have been a fan since he first started and I introduced him to my mom, which is why I took her. He is such an amazing performer and so talented. I can relate to his story and his music and it brings so many people together. He has a great future ahead of him. I want to go to all of his concerts now. The energy was amazing and I am still on cloud 9.
