Son Rompe Pera are a Mexico City-based band founded by the Gama brothers, Jesús Ángel "Kacho" and Alan "Mongo.” The brothers’ fusion-folk sound derives from their upbringing in Naucalpan, Mexico and their early use of the marimba. The influential instrument was taught to them by their late father, who initially performed with the brothers and later became the namesake of their 2020 debut album Batuco. In 2023, the Gama brothers released their full-length follow-up, Chimborazo. Over the years, Son Rompe Pera have experimented with traditional marimba and cumbia music by infusing traces of rock, punk, ska and danzón. Their current lineup is composed of Kacho, Mongo, drummer and youngest Gama brother Kilos, bassist Raúl Albarran and drummer Ricardo López. The band was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most energetic acts in Latin punk” in 2022.
