Sandy does mostly good shows. This one was terrific. I had never seen Little Women before, and I was pleasantly entertained with talent above the typical community theater level. The acting and singing were outstanding. There were very few soft spots in the cast, and even those were still good enough to not detract from the rest of the talent. It was well directed to complement the beautiful set and costumes. We have seen several Sandy Arts productions and I'm sure we will see many more.
Left early the musicals took many liberties with the primal just not my style . Left early
My son had seen a touring company of Little Women in Hartford CT and wasn’t impressed. We were impressed with the quality of acting presented at the Stanley. The only reason I gave the show 4 stars was the lack of a paper program. Did not enjoy the QR code program experience. I like to glance at my paper program during a show can’t do that with a cell phone program since you’re not supposed to have your cell phone out during a performance.
The venue was great! The performances were amazing. this was my anniversary present to my wife who owns every version of the movie and has read every book by Alcott! We were quite impressed, especially considering how young the cast was!
It was not what I had expected ie: no sets and the actors reading their lines from a script, but they made the story believeable. The actress who played the role of Jo however, was a bit too forceful, I felt she needed to soften the character.
The Musical Theater Guild presented this musical as a staged reading, so all the actors had their scripts in hand. Some (Amy, played by Melissa Fahn, and Miss March, played by Carol Kline) relied heavily on them, but in general the cast was familiar with their lines, so it wasn't too distracting overall. Alyssa M. Simmons played the part of Jo and she was marvelous. She embodied the Jo I had imagined when I read the book as a youth. Spunky and loud and full of life. She hardly glanced at her script, thank goodness, and she had a wonderful voice.
VERY GOOD ACTING OF YOUTH & ADULTS. AUNT MARCH WAS SO FUNNY!
I have to say that the cast, especially Jo were very talented. I felt like the first 1/4 of the show started a little slow and hard to understand, but ended with a bang, making the total experience worth the money. It was my first opera, but will not be my last.
I enjoyed the opera. The singers were very good. The venue is exceptional.
