I saw The Carl Band back in 2005ish with these 2 young lads playing bass and guitar at the infamous Shank Hall in Milwaukee with about 180 other folks. That show was the the very raw genesis of this current show. The boys are now playing amazing midi keyboards through their guitar/bass/chapman stick that are mind-blowing! Carl, who just turned 75, is in great form and put on a hell of a show. The integrated video with vintage Keith and Greg complete the ELP experience -- which you must witness for yourself -- before this drumming icon hangs up his sticks. Welcome Yourself Back to this Show before you can't.
Been to 3 shows recently at the Genesee and loved them all. Great venue which never felt over crowded. Will continue to find shows as it is a real bargain as well.
My girlfriend and I have been too many shows together and this show was absolutely fantastic. I love coming to the Genesee. I look forward to the next time we have the opportunity to go.
Palmer is still one of the greatest drummers in the world. The show was perfectly organized, combining live performance of Palmer's team with the live video records of ELP. I was surprised that there free seats in the theater - maybe Waukegan is not the best location for it and people was afraid of a long driving. I came to the show with my 40-years old son and he was also very impressed on it! I will recommend it to anyone who likes real music of 70's.
The drummer, in my view, is rarely the focal point of a rock band and ELP was no exception. I became a fan because of Keith Emerson’s keyboard wizardry foremost but all three members were equal contributors. I started out feeling disappointed at the pre-recorded Lake and Emerson parts but Palmer’s energy, humor, massive skill and program choice made the show a (limited though it must be) success.
Excellent ELP presentation highlighted with spectacular drumming by consummate professional, Carl Palmer. Videos and 2 great young musicians add to the magic of this show. A "Must see"for any true fans of ELP!
It seems kind of odd to have ELP be "film of Emerson, film of Lake, and real-life Palmer."But it was really very well done. Carl Palmer is as solid as ever. The two younger musicians flanking him do an amazing job of recreating Greg Lake's guitar and bass, and even Keith Emerson's keyboards (on guitar!) to produce a memorable performance. The repertoire covered pieces of the debut LP, Tarkus, Pictures, Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery and beyond. They acknowledged reverently the memories of Emerson and Lake. I'm very glad I went.
The greatest drummer of all time not only gave us a concert, he gave all of us a personal visit into his life. Carl and his band also provided a wonderful tribute to Keith Emerson and Greg Lake which made the experience unforgettable. I could not be happier with the event. I must also compliment the staff at the venue, the Lexington Opera House for their friendliness and hospitality.
I knew the chuckwagon song, trilogy, from the beginning and lucky man and that was it. I don’t expect to go to a concert and not know most of the material, particularly since the band has not been together for years and doesn’t have new material. Probably it was based on what was filmed and recorded the best in order to let Carl palmer play virtually with his former band Mate but it was really not very great. The drum solo was awesome but a little lengthy.
